Pleasanton, Calif. -  Blackhawk Network has completed the acquisition of Dallas-based CardLab Inc., an online provider of customizable prepaid incentive and rewards cards. The deal is part of Blackhawk's strategy to extend its prepaid card solutions from physical and online retail channels into the business-to-business channels that issue incentives and rewards to consumers, customers and employees.

New York -- Wal-Mart Stores has no plans to join Apple’s newly-announced mobile payments system, Apple Pay, which is due to launch in October.

Wal-Mart is supporting a retailer-owned mobile technology group, the Merchant Customer Exchange, which is launching its own mobile wallet application. The application, called CurrentC, is now in pilot and is expected to be rolled out nationwide in 2015, according to The Washington Post.  Best Buy is also among the retailers supporting CurrentC.

A new survey of U.S. consumers conducted by Princeton Research Associates for Creditcards.com shows that only 4% of Americans say they would always use their mobile phone to make a purchase and only 9% said “most of the time.”

Braintree, PayPal’s payments processor subsidiary, will let its merchants start accepting Bitcoin over the coming months.

New York -- Braintree, PayPal’s payments processor subsidiary, will let its merchants start accepting Bitcoin over the coming months. The news was announced on Monday at a technology conference in San Francisco.

The move would allow websites and apps that run payments through Braintree to accept bitcoin as a payment method. But there was no news of how many, if any, of Braintree’s customers, which include Uber, will decide to accept the virtual currency.

Alliance Data will provide credit card marketing services for the Meijer store-branded credit card and the Meijer Platinum MasterCard, which will offer card members the opportunity to accrue Meijer Rewards points for every dollar spent at Meijer, Meijer gas stations and Meijer.com, as well as on all other purchases made with the card.

Atlanta – The alleged security breach that recently hit The Home Depot Inc. may have compromised credit and debit card data at nearly all of the company’s stores. According to the security website Krebsonsecurity.com, the unique ZIP codes of a large batch of new cards listed for sale on underground hacker sites shows a more than 99% overlap with nearby Home Depot stores, suggesting a widespread breach.

They are then prompted to submit a brief application, after which approval is confirmed within seconds. The card number is stored in conjunction with the customer's Overstock.com account, though the customer also receives a physical card.
