Pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts and Walgreens said they are ending a legal dispute.

Deerfield, Ill. -- Pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts and Walgreens said Friday they are ending a legal dispute. However, the decision has no impact on their ability to agree to business terms.

Walgreens said last June that it would stop filling prescriptions for Express Scripts Holding Co. members when a contract between the companies expired. It said Express Scripts was not paying it enough money.

Walgreen Co. said that same-store sales slipped a worse-than-expected 6.4% in April, largely due to its split with pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts Inc.

New York -- Walgreen Co. said Thursday that same-store sales slipped a worse-than-expected 6.4% in April, largely due to its split with pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts Inc.

For April, Walgreens’ same-store pharmacy sales were down 8.9%. Front-end sales fell 2.2%

At April 30, Walgreens operated 8,307 locations in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam

Walgreens said its same-store sales in January fell 4.6% in the wake of its decision to stop doing business with a major pharmacy benefits manager.

Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreens said its same-store sales in January fell 4.6% in the wake of its decision to stop doing business with a major  pharmacy benefits manager. A weak flu season also figured into its results.

Walgreen stopped filling prescriptions for patients in the Express Scripts network on December 31, 2011. Pharmacy same-store sales were down 7.9% in January.

CVS Caremark Corp. won a $3 billion contract to provide pharmacy benefits to federal employees.

New York City -- CVS Caremark Corp. won a $3 billion contract to provide pharmacy benefits to federal employees.

The contract has been handled by pharmacy benefits manager Medco Health Solutions since 2008. Medco disclosed on Friday that Blue Cross Blue Shield Association would not renew a contract that saw Medco handle mail order and specialty drug benefits for the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, which provides health insurance to federal government employees, retirees, and their families.
