Sam's Club has become the first warehouse club retailer to install SoloHealth's comprehensive health-and-wellness screening kiosks, SoloHealth announced.

Atlanta -- Sam's Club has become the first warehouse club retailer to install SoloHealth's comprehensive health-and-wellness screening kiosks, SoloHealth announced Wednesday.

SoloHealth said it will begin the rollout of its SoloHealth Station to more than 500 Sam's Club locations nationwide. The kiosks, currently available in select U.S. retail locations, is expected to be in more than 2,500 retail locations by mid-2013.

Costco Wholesale Corp.’s international executive VP James Murphy said that the warehouse club operator is pursuing a European expansion program.

Issaquah, Wash. -- Costco Wholesale Corp.’s international executive VP James Murphy said Thursday that the warehouse club operator is pursuing a European expansion program.

Murphy told Bloomberg that Costco is “interested in investing in the obvious four -- Germany, Italy, France and Spain.” The company hasn’t decided which country would debut first and will probably open a store in the region “in the next couple of years,” Murphy said in the Bloomberg interview.

San Diego -- PriceSmart announced that it has purchased land on which it will build a PriceSmart Warehouse Club in North Cali, Colombia. It would be the company’s third store in Colombia.

PriceSmart recently began construction of a location in South Cali, that is expected to open in October 2012. It anticipates the North Cali PriceSmart Club will open in the spring of 2013.

BJ’s Wholesale Club said Friday that its shareholders have okayed the acquisition bid that will take the company private.

Westborough, Mass. -- BJ’s Wholesale Club said Friday that its shareholders have OK'd the acquisition bid that will take the company private.

Private equity firms Leonard Green & Partners and CVC Capital Partners agreed to acquire the warehouse club operator in a deal valued at $2.8 billion.

According to BJ’s, 72% of its shareholders approved the bid. The deal is slated to close on or about Sept. 30.

BJ's Wholesale Club’s same-store sales jumped 11.5% in August, beating analysts' predictions for a 7.8% increase. The retailer said that gasoline sales contributed about 3.6 percentage points to the increase, and hurricane-related sales contributed another 2.5 to 3 percentage points.

The warehouse club operator said revenue rose 11% to $3.05 billion from $2.75 billion, beating an expected $2.98 billion. Revenue from membership fees increased to $51.8 million from $47.5 million, while net sales rose to $2.98 billion from $2.69 billion. Same-store sales rose 7.8%, including a 4% contribution from fuel sales.
