Verizon Wireless has embarked on an ambitious initiative to transform the customer experience across its portfolio of 1,700 company-owned stores. The new strategy emphasizes lifestyle over product and promotes in-store engagement and interactivity.

“We are transforming the focus of our stores from selling devices to enabling customers to discover all that wireless technology can do for their mobile lifestyles,” said Domenico D’Ambrosio, executive director, national retail operations, Verizon Wireless.

In November, the company unveiled its “destination store” format, in Mall of America, Bloomington, Minn. More than about selling phones and other devices, the 9,000-sq.-ft. store is designed to help customers experience a more robust mobile life.

Atlantic Street Capital, a private equity firm investing in the lower middle market, acquired Z Wireless in 2011.

A Monday report by the Associated Press said that Verizon Wireless will install apps for American Express Co.'s new online payment service, Serve, on its phones and tablets.

New York City -- A Monday report by the Associated Press said that Verizon Wireless will install apps for American Express Co.'s new online payment service, Serve, on its phones and tablets.

Terms of the agreement between Verizon Wireless and American Express have not been revealed. Verizon’s Serve online payment service is based on pre-funded accounts, and it enables online transactions without entering a credit card number.

RadioShack Corp. reported Tuesday that net income for the second quarter dropped to $24.9 million from $53 million in the year-ago period.

Dallas -- RadioShack Corp. reported Tuesday that net income for the second quarter dropped to $24.9 million from $53 million in the year-ago period. Sales decreased to $941.9 million, compared with $962.3 million a year earlier. Wall Street expected sales of $1.03 billion.

However, analysts responded positively to RadioShack’s news that it had signed a deal with Verizon Wireless to sell its postpaid and prepaid wireless products and services beginning Sept. 15, supplanting its current program with T-Mobile.
