Westfield names U.S. leasing division head

Los Angeles -- The Westfield Group announced that David T. Weinert will join the U.S. unit of the group as senior executive VP leasing.

Weinert joins Westfield after 25 years with the Taubman Co., most recently serving as senior VP of leasing.

One-stop shopping convenience has taken on new meaning at Westfield Chicago Ridge, in Chicago Ridge, Ill., where Aldi has opened its first U.S. mall store. In May, the German discount grocer opened a supermarket inside the 800,000-sq.-ft. suburban Chicago center, a property of The Westfield Group. Except for its location, the 20,000-sq.-ft. Aldi is prototypical in most respects.

New York City -- Discount grocer Aldi has made its U.S. mall debut, opening in Westfield Chicago Ridge, an 800,000-sq.-ft. enclosed shopping center in Chicago Ridge, Ill. The mall is a property of The Westfield Group.

The 20,000-sq.-ft. store offers the same prices and products as other Aldi stores, and also features the retailer’s current interior prototype elements. The store is entered through the mall entrances.

Westfield Old Orchard to launch world-first dining and green specialty food shopping venue

The Westfield Group announced that its Westfield Old Orchard shopping center in Skokie, Ill., will change dramatically with the addition of a culinary-focused dining and green food shopping venue slated to open in summer 2011.

Skokie, Ill. -- The Westfield Group announced that its Westfield Old Orchard shopping center in Skokie, Ill., will change dramatically with the addition of a culinary-focused dining and green food shopping venue slated to open in summer 2011.

The new venue replaces the former food court, which closed on Sept. 1 to make way for the new development.
