Alliance Data Systems has agreed to acquire The Bon-Ton Stores’ private-label credit card portfolio worth $475 million.

Dallas -- Alliance Data Systems has agreed to acquire The Bon-Ton Stores’ private-label credit card portfolio worth $475 million.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Alliance Data, which provides private-label credit card services to retailers, will also manage the retailer's private-label credit card program.

Bon-Ton Stores, Inc., operates 272 stores in 23 states across the Northeast, Midwest, and upper Great Plains, under a variety of banners.

The Bon-Ton Stores has signed a lease with General Growth Properties to open a Herberger’s in Pine Ridge Mall, Pocatello, Idaho.

York, Pa. -- The Bon-Ton Stores has signed a lease with General Growth Properties to open a Herberger’s in Pine Ridge Mall, Pocatello, Idaho.

Remodeling is expected to begin in April 2012 and be completed by the end of October 2012.

The Pine Ridge location will be the first store in Idaho for the company.

New York City -- The nation’s discount chains reported solid results for January, with Target Corp., TJX Cos., and Costco Wholesale Corp. all reporting gains above expectations. Overall, discounters reported stronger results than department stores, which appeared to take a greater hit due to the unseasonably warm weather and heavy promotions.

As the first month of the year, January accounts for only 20% November-January sales, and 7% of annual sales, according to RetailMetrics.

Hoffman replaces Bud Bergren, who is a current member of the board of directors and who will transition to the role of the chairman.

As part of a real estate realignment strategy, The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. on Tuesday said it will close two of its department stores, one in Pennsylvania and the other in Ohio, when their leases expire in early 2012.

The company said it plans to close its store in the West Manchester Mall in York, Pa., in January, and its Elder-Beerman store in the Northwest Mall in Dayton, Ohio, which will shut down in February.

The Bon-Ton Stores reported Thursday that it narrowed its loss in the second quarter to $32.3 million from $33.7 million a year earlier.

York, Pa. -- The Bon-Ton Stores reported Thursday that it narrowed its loss in the second quarter to $32.3 million from $33.7 million a year earlier.

Sales declined 2.2% to $595.5 million, but aggressive cost-cutting prompted the improved profit performance. Results, however, missed Wall Street expectations.

Same-store sales fell 1.5% for the quarter.

Remodeling of the site is expected to begin in March and be completed in November, at which time Bon-Ton will open a new store under its Herberger’s banner.
The new Herberger’s location will bring the total number of Herberger’s stores to six in the Minneapolis/St. Paul market.
