HSN Inc. (HSNi) missed Wall Street expectations for its net income in the second quarter of fiscal 2014.

St. Petersburg, Fla. – HSN Inc. (HSNi) missed Wall Street expectations for its net income in the second quarter of fiscal 2014. HSN reported net income of $40.9 million, a 5% drop from $43.3 million a year earlier.

Net sales rose 5% to $855.2 million, from $812.6 million. Mobile and digital sales growth helped drive the overall improvement in net sales. Promotions in the company’s Cornerstore business negatively impacted net income.

Under Armour announced that George W. Bodenheimer, former president of sports network and entertainment company ESPN has joined the company's board of directors.

Baltimore -- Under Armour announced that George W. Bodenheimer, former president of sports network and entertainment company ESPN has joined the company's board of directors.  

Bodenheimer is an ESPN and cable industry pioneer, having served as the company's longest-tenured President from 1998 to 2012, during which time he led an unprecedented period of global growth. He most recently served as executive chairman of ESPN, before retiring from the company in May 2014.

Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO) reported net income of $2.24 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2014, a turnaround from a net loss of $636,000 in the second quarter of the previous fiscal year.

New York – Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO) reported net income of $2.24 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2014, a turnaround from a net loss of $636,000 in the second quarter of the previous fiscal year. Revenues fell 11% to $37.6 million from $42.2 million, due to lower print and merchandising revenue partially offset by higher digital advertising revenue.

Rob Brown, an actor best known for his role on the HBO series “Treme,” has reportedly settled a discrimination lawsuit against Macy’s and the city of New York.

New York – Rob Brown, an actor best known for his role on the HBO series “Treme,” has reportedly settled a discrimination lawsuit against Macy’s and the city of New York. According to Reuters, Brown’s suit accused three Macy’s security guards in a New York store of handcuffing him, publicly accusing him of credit card fraud, and marching him through the store before harassing and mocking him in a detention cell for an hour in a June 2013 incident.

St. Petersburg, Fla. – HSN Inc. (HSNi) is promoting chief marketing officer Bill Brand to president of HSN, effective immediately. Brand will retain his role as chief marketing officer of HSNi and will continue to report directly to HSNi CEO Mindy Grossman.

Brand is also an executive officer of the company. As president, he will assume responsibility of merchandising, programming, planning and HSN2 in addition to his current responsibilities.

J.C. Penney has filed an appeal of a June 16 ruling by the New York State Supreme Court that it "tortuously" interfered with Macy’s 2006 contract with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia when Penney entered into its own contract with Martha Stewart in 2011.

In the ruling, Justice Jeffrey K. Oing said Macy’s failed to prove that it is entitled to punitive damages.

Net income declined at HSN Inc. during the first quarter of fiscal 2014 even as sales slightly improved compared to the same period a year earlier.

St. Petersburg, Fla. - Net income declined at HSN Inc. during the first quarter of fiscal 2014 even as sales slightly improved compared to the same period a year earlier. Net income dropped 23% to $24.18 million from $31.54 million.

Net sales climbed 1% to $772.42 million from $772.65 million. A slight decline in average price point, as well as a higher tax rate and increased cost of sales, helped push HSN’s net income down. Mindy Grossman, CEO of HSN, Inc., also cited severe weather as a negative financial factor in the quarter.

In 2013, Staples launched its postal pilot program, introducing in-store postal services that today includes about 80 stores. According to a report by the Associated Press, the union objects because the program replaces well-paid union workers with low-wage nonunion workers.

Lille, France – French home improvement retailer Leroy Merlin, a banner of Adeo Group, will install Pricer's electronic shelf label (ESL) system in all of its 121 stores by the end of 2015. Thirty -five store installations are planned for 2014 and the remainder during 2015.

The project value is estimated at more than $20 million. Leroy Merlin will roll out a mix of Pricer's economical segment-based ESLs along with featured graphic E-Paper-based labels throughout its stores.
