Mystery shopper reports served as a wake-up call to Kroger’s 131-store Fred Meyer division.

In 2009, Fred Meyer stores scored a meager 68.3% in overall customer impression in the reports. But over the past three years, the number has jumped to 83.8%, according to data provided by Reality Check of Seattle, the retailer’s secret shopper service provider.

Greenway Medical Technologies Inc. has entered into a deal with Walgreen Co. whereby the drug store chain will use Greenway’s electronic health records in all of its stores.

New York -- Greenway Medical Technologies Inc. has entered into a deal with Walgreen Co. whereby the drug store chain will use Greenway’s electronic health records in all of its stores.

Greenway said its records will allow Walgreen pharmacists to view a customer's entire prescription profile and health testing and immunization history even if the customer received those services at other Walgreen stores.

The service will be rolled out at all Walgreen stores by the end of next summer.

Office Max Inc. reported net income of $10.7 million for the second quarter, besting Wall Street predictions and representing a strong turnaround from last year’s $3 million loss stemming from store closures and severance expenses.

Revenue for the quarter slipped 2.7% to $1.6 billion, missing analysts’ forecasted $1.64 billion in revenue. The office supply retailer said it will reinstate its quarterly common stock dividend, which it suspended more than three years ago.

After months of slumping sales following its split with Express Scripts Holding Co., Walgreens said it has forged a new multi-year contract with the prescription provider and will begin filling Express Scripts prescriptions on Sept. 15.

Walgreen had stopped filling prescriptions for Express Scripts after a contract between the companies ended last year. Express Scripts ended the contract because it said Walgreens wanted a premium compared to what Express Scripts paid other pharmacies.

Mobile payments have more than doubled in popularity reaching over 33% of survey respondents, according to IDC Financial Insights’ eighth annual Consumer Payments Survey.

Framingham, Mass. -- Mobile payments have more than doubled in popularity reaching over 33% of survey respondents, according to IDC Financial Insights’ eighth annual Consumer Payments Survey.

The new report, “Business Strategy: Results from the 2012 Consumer Payments Survey,” found that those that of whose had made a mobile payment, more than half used PayPal Mobile (56%), with Amazon Payments and Apple's iTunes service statistically tied at about 40%.

Compared with most other industries, retail companies face shorter time horizons and tighter metrics. The pressure to perform is great, which perhaps explains why many retail firms are having trouble holding onto their top executives.

For example, one major U.S. retailer recently suffered the departures of a senior marketing executive, a division president and another executive VP, all within the space of a few months. One of those executives had lasted only five months, while another had a tenure of less than two years.

Survey results released by WorkInRetail.com found that about one-third (32%) of retail hiring managers use social networking sites to research job candidates.

Chicago -- Survey results released Thursday by WorkInRetail.com found that about one-third (32%) of retail hiring managers use social networking sites to research job candidates.

The new survey from WorkInRetail.com – CareerBuilder’s job site for retail professionals, found that of the retail employers who do not research candidates on social media, 16% said their company prohibits the practice. Nine percent report they do not currently use social media to screen, but plan to start.

A survey released by PriceGrabber said that 77% of consumers who own a tablet computer use either a tablet or a smartphone to shop.

Los Angeles -- A survey released Monday by PriceGrabber said that 77% of consumers who own a tablet computer use either a tablet or a smartphone to shop.

The survey includes responses from 1,829 U.S. online shopping consumers, 22% of whom indicated that they own a tablet computer.

When consumers who use their mobile devices for shopping were asked how often they make purchases from their mobile devices, 40% said a couple times a month, 23% said once a week, 20% said a few times a year, and 10% said daily.
