Simons, Canada’s eclectic and fashion-forward department store retailer, received top honors in Chain Store Age’s 31st annual Retail Store of the Year design competition.

New York -- Simons, Canada’s eclectic and fashion-forward department store retailer, received top honors in Chain Store Age’s 31st annual Retail Store of the Year design competition. The company’s 118,000-sq.-ft. store in West Edmonton Mall, Edmonton, Canada, was named Store of the Year. Designed by figure3, Toronto, Simons also was the winning entry in the department store category.

Receive recognition for new store and renovation projects! The 31st annual Chain Store Age Retail Store of the Year Awards will celebrate the best in retail and restaurant design for projects opened between November 30, 2011 and December 30, 2012.

All winning projects will be featured in the March 2013 issue of Chain Store Age, and also presented at Chain Store Age’s annual SPECS conference, March 17-20, 2013, in Dallas.

Cabela’s Inc. reported Thursday a fourth-quarter net income of $69.8 million, compared with $66.3 million last year.

Sidney, Neb. -- Cabela’s Inc. reported Thursday a fourth-quarter net income of $69.8 million, compared with $66.3 million last year. The company also announced plans to open a smaller-sized format, called Cabela’s Outpost Store, designed for markets with less than 250,000 people.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2011, Cabela’s revenue, increased 5.4% to $983.7 million, and same-store sales rose 1.7%. Retail store revenue increased 9.8% to $525.6 million.

New York City -- The latest jewel in the portfolio of Mexican department store operator Liverpool took top honors in Chain Store Age’s 30th annual Retail Store of the Year design competition. The company’s 319,000-sq.-ft. store in the Mexico City suburb of Interlomas was named Store of the Year and was also the winning entry in the Department Store category.

Chain Store Age invites design firms, architects, retailers and suppliers to submit entries for its 30th annual Retail Store of the Year Design Competition.

New York City -- Chain Store Age invites design firms, architects, retailers and suppliers to submit entries for its 30th annual Retail Store of the Year Design Competition. Eligible projects are those completed between November 2010 and December 2, 2011. Deadline for submission is December 20, 2011. Extensions are available.

Twenty-one competition categories are featured, ranging from supermarkets and discount/mass merchants to specialty stores and pop-up stores.

honors the winners of its 28th annual store design competition, which attracted entries from around the globe. Barbie Shanghai, which celebrates one of America’s most iconic brands, was awarded top honors, Retail Store of the Year.

In addition, there were 19 first-place awards and seven honorable-mention awards in the various categories.
