At the back of the new Ollie’s Bargain Outlet in Reading, Pa., is a self-serve café setup with a sign that proclaims: “The Pot’s Always On. Have a free cup of coffee on us, and if you like, use two sugars … it’s been a pretty good year!”

From the sounds of things, there hasn’t been a bad year since the first Ollie’s opened in Mechanicsburg, Pa., in 1982.

Reading, Pa. -- Garrison Investment Group said that Charming Charlie, Berkshire Shoe & Boot, and Menchey Music have opened or will open soon at The Shoppes at Wyomissing, located in Reading, Pa.

The three new tenants total nearly 11,400 sq. ft. in the 103,108-sq.-ft. open-air lifestyle center, which is owned by the Garrison and managed by Levin Management.

Albert Boscov, chairman and CEO of Boscov’s Department Stores, began his retail career at the ripe age of 6 when his father Solomon Boscov, the company’s founder, ‘hired’ him to catch flies in the family-owned store in downtown Reading, Pa. Little Albert didn’t have to travel very far: The store, founded in 1911, was located upstairs in the building where he and his family lived.

Tesco has committed to the Microsoft platform in an eight year, world-wide agreement.

Reading, England -- Tesco has committed to the Microsoft platform in an eight year, world-wide agreement. The deal is designed to enable the U.K.-based retailer to improve productivity, decision-making, knowledge sharing and operational excellence across the 14 countries in which it currently operates.

The agreement will underpin Tesco’s strategic objectives of growing its international presence; expanding its non-food business; and offering a broad selection of retail services such as banking, online and mobile.

Canadian golf retailer Golf Town said Thursday it has opened its first five stores in the United States, all located in the greater Boston area.

Toronto -- Canadian golf retailer Golf Town said Thursday it has opened its first five stores in the United States, all located in the greater Boston area.

The $25 million U.S. market expansion includes stores in Avon, Bellingham, Reading, Seekonk and Watertown, Mass., all of which opened on March 24 and total about 100,000 sq. ft. A sixth store is slated to open in Northborough, Mass. in the fall.
