Boca Raton, Fla. -- Office Depot has appointed Troy Rice as executive VP of retail, effective April 14. Rice, who replaces Juan Guerrero, will also serve as a member of Office Depot’s leadership team and report directly to chairman and CEO Roland Smith.

Office Depot and OfficeMax have narrowed their list of CEO candidates to five, and expect to have the person in place in September.

Boca Raton, Fla. – Office Depot and OfficeMax have narrowed their list of CEO candidates to five, and expect to have the person in place in September. The rival chains are set to merge in a $1.2 billion deal that is expected to close by the end of the year.

In a joint press release, the two retailers said that after reviewing and vetting more than 100 candidates and interviewing eight, the CEO Selection Committee has narrowed the field down to five candidates it believes can lead the combined business forward following the merger.

Office Depot de Mexico, which was founded in 1994 as a joint partnership between Office Depot and Grupo Gigante, has more than 248 stores throughout Mexico and Central America and more than $1.1 billion in annual sales.

Real estate development firm Fimiani Development said that it has named Lindsey Alexander and Meredith Housman as VPs of leasing for the company.

Alexander and Housman will work with Simon Property Company, Kite Realty Group, Kimco and Office Depot and will focus on landlord representation as well as tenant representation.

Alexander was previously with Woolbright Development and Housman with Equity One.

Boca Raton, Fla. -- Office Depot's fiscal third-quarter net income more than doubled, but its adjusted results missed analysts’ expectations amid sales declines in North America.

The company earned $91.7 million for the period ended Sept. 24, compared with $32 million a year earlier. But excluding $6 million in restructuring charges and other costs and a $99 million tax benefit, the company lost about $700,000, or break-even per share.

Office Depot reported Tuesday that it loss widened to $29 million in the second quarter, compared with a loss of $25 million in the year-ago period.

Boca Raton, Fla. -- Office Depot reported Tuesday that it loss widened to $29 million in the second quarter, compared with a loss of $25 million in the year-ago period.

Sales were essentially flat in the quarter, at $2.7 billion. By division, total sales dipped 2% in the North American retail division to $1.1 billion, and same-store sales decreased 1%. During the second quarter of 2011, the division closed 14 stores, opened four stores and relocated four stores, bringing the total count for North America retail to 1,131 stores.

The removal of the benefit, which had already been recorded in financial statements, will result in a loss for 2010 of $46 million. Previously the company said it earned $33 million.

Energy Star Leaders is a group of organizations that have improved energy efficiency across all of the facilities in a portfolio.

According to Office Depot, it is the first non-supermarket retailer to be recognized for realizing a greater than 20% reduction.

Terms were not disclosed.

Office Depot first entered the Swedish market in 2004 through a strategic alliance with AGE Kontor & Data AB.

"We've been successful in this market and see continued growth and high potential in the region," said Charlie Brown, president of Office Depot's international division, said in a statement on Tuesday.

Boca Raton, Fla. -- Office Depot announced Monday that its chairman and CEO Steve Odland has resigned from the company. The departure comes just days after Office Depot, Odland and the former CFO were levied with civil penalties related to an SEC probe.

Odland’s departure, effective Nov. 1, is by mutual agreement with the Office Depot board of directors, said the company.
