Editor's Note: Chain Store Age's 24th annual survey of Fastest-Growing Managers measures new domestic and international third-party management and leasing contracts obtained during the preceding calendar year (2012).

Last year's numbers were such that we couldn't limit our annual Fastest-Growing third-party managers listing to a top five; a sixth was added because the contract totals were that close.

The Jones Group Inc. said Monday that it has nominated James Mitarotonda, chairman and CEO of Barington Capital Group, to its board of directors, expanding the board to 11 members.

New York -- The Jones Group Inc. said Monday that it has nominated James Mitarotonda, chairman and CEO of Barington Capital Group, to its board of directors, expanding the board to 11 members.

Barington has about a 2.3% stake in Jones Group.

SRS Real Estate Partners and Cresa announced an agreement to form a new company to perform lease administration services for retail, office and industrial clients.

Dallas -- SRS Real Estate Partners and Cresa announced an agreement to form a new company to perform lease administration services for retail, office and industrial clients.

The new company will be known as SRS-Cresa Lease Administration, and will deliver a spectrum of lease administration services including critical date management, CAM audits, occupancy cost reconciliations, and full portfolio lease administration services out of currently established offices in Dallas and in Chicago.

Investment firm Starboard Value, Office Depot’s largest stockholder with a 14.8% stake, revealed Monday it has delivered a letter to the office supply retailer’s board of directors, expressing “strong disappointment at the board's failure to work constructively with Starboard to reconstitute the board.”

New York -- Investment firm Starboard Value, Office Depot’s largest stockholder with a 14.8% stake, revealed Monday it has delivered a letter to the office supply retailer’s board of directors, expressing “strong disappointment at the board's failure to work constructively with Starboard to reconstitute the board.”

In March, Starboard nominated six candidates, including former Home Depot chief Robert Nardelli – to Office Depot’s board in an effort to strengthen the company’s direction.

Jones Lang LaSalle Retail announced that the firm has been retained by Clarion Partners as the exclusive leasing and management agent for Coral Sky Plaza in Royal Palm Beach, Fla.

Royal Palm Beach, Fla. -- Jones Lang LaSalle Retail announced that the firm has been retained by Clarion Partners as the exclusive leasing and management agent for Coral Sky Plaza in Royal Palm Beach, Fla.

The 233,000-sq.-ft. strip center is anchored by BJ’s Wholesale Club and is currently 97% leased.

Coral Sky Plaza is tenanted by Ross Dress for Less, Bed Bath & Beyond, Buy Buy Baby and BJ’s Wholesale Club. Jones Lang LaSalle said it is currently seeking high-impact retailers to fill a vacant endcap space.

Foot Locker announced Wednesday that it has appointed Maxine Clarke, founder and CEO of Build-A-Bear Workshop, as a member of its board of directors.

New York -- Foot Locker announced Wednesday that it has appointed Maxine Clarke, founder and CEO of  Build-A-Bear Workshop, as a member of its board of directors. Clark recently announced that she will step down from her executive position at the toy-making chain as soon as a successor is found.

Clark has also served as president of Payless ShoeSource, and spent 19 years as an executive with May Department Stores Co.

Last June, two organizations — Retail Industry Leaders Association and International Council of Shopping Centers — co-sponsored a sustainability initiative that ultimately would set the bar for landlord/tenant partnerships.

The last 14 months haven’t been without bumps. Forging positive, mutually beneficial programs that involve cooperation from shopping center owners and their retail tenants has long been one of this industry’s greatest — and most frustrating — challenges.
