PetSmart announced its planned management succession plan. The company said that following its annual shareholders meeting on June 14, 2013, current president and COO David K. Lenhardt will be promoted to CEO and simultaneously join the board of directors.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said it has launched an expansion of its solar initiative in Arizona at its Buckeye distribution center near Phoenix.

Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Thursday it has launched an expansion of its solar initiative in Arizona at its Buckeye distribution center near Phoenix.

According to the retailer, the distribution center will feature Walmart's largest solar installation to date with over 14,000 solar panels on a 1 million-sq.-ft. building and parking canopies that will produce up to 30% of the DC’s energy needs.

The solar panels will generate up to 5.3 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy per year.

Sanders joined Sprouts in 2002 when the company had only one store. He became president in 2005 after serving in various roles including CIO and COO.

Susan Riddle and Kelly Anderson have joined the team as marketing coordinators and will be responsible for executing the national and local marketing strategies.

Riddle comes to SRS from Rowland Constructors where she was the marketing coordinator/executive assistant to the managing partner. Anderson joins SRS from Pilot Catastrophe where she served as an independent contractor for Allstate Insurance.

Mall owner DDR Corp. announced that it has acquired its joint-venture partner’s 50% ownership interest in two power centers located in Portland, Ore., and in Phoenix.

Beachwood, Ohio -- Mall owner DDR Corp. announced Wednesday that it has acquired its joint-venture partner’s 50% ownership interest in two power centers located in Portland, Ore., and in Phoenix. The $70 million transaction gives DDR full ownership of the assets.

Tanasbourne Town Center, in Portland, is a large-format power center totaling 566,000 sq. ft. and anchored by Target, Nordstrom Rack, Bed Bath & Beyond, Ross Dress For Less, Michaels, Old Navy and Petco.

Phoenix Premium Outlets in Chandler, Ariz., is currently under construction with a spring 2013 opening planned. Phase 1 of the center will be comprised of 360,000 sq. ft. housing approximately 90 outlet stores featuring high-quality designer and name brands.

Sprouts Farmers Market, a Phoenix-based natural-foods supermarket chain, has reached an agreement to merge with competitor, Sunflower Farmers Market, based in Boulder, Col.

New York -- Sprouts Farmers Market, a Phoenix-based natural-foods supermarket chain, has reached an agreement to merge with competitor, Sunflower Farmers Market, based in Boulder, Col. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The combined company will operate 139 stores in eight states under the Sprouts banner, with annual sales of approximately $2 billion. It will open about 12 new stores this year.

“Our operations are very similar," said Sprouts president Doug Sanders, who will lead the combined supermarket company.

PetSmart Inc. reported Thursday that profit for the fourth quarter rose 13% to $102 million, compared with $90.3 million in the year-ago period.

Phoenix -- PetSmart Inc. reported Thursday that profit for the fourth quarter rose 13% to $102 million, compared with $90.3 million in the year-ago period.

Revenue during the quarter was $1.64 billion, up from $1.52 billion a year earlier and beating Wall Street’s expected $1.62 billion in revenue. Same-store sales rose 5.5%.

For the full year of 2011, the company reported net income of $290.2 million, up from $239.9 million in 2010. Revenue for the year was $6.11 billion, up from $5.69 billion the year before.

Sprouts announced the closings via Twitter. In the tweet, it said that employees of the three stores that are closing would be assigned to other locations.

PetSmart Inc. reported that net income for the quarter ended Oct. 30 rose 22% to $56.2 million, from $45.6 million a year earlier.

Revenue rose nearly 8% to $1.5 billion from $1.4 billion, just beating Wall Street’s expected $1.49 billion in revenue. Same-store sales increased 6.1%.

Cole Real Estate Investments said Monday that it has acquired a portfolio of 11 PetSmart retail properties for $74 million.

Phoenix -- Cole Real Estate Investments said Monday that it has acquired a portfolio of 11 PetSmart retail properties for $74 million.

The approximately 300,000-sq.-ft. triple-net leased portfolio is located in primary markets in California, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan and Texas. The 11 individual retail properties are leased to PetSmart, under one master lease, with an original 20-year lease term and approximately 10 years remaining, plus three automatic renewals for up to a total of 20 additional years.

Phoenix -- Cole Real Estate Investments announced Monday that it has signed leases totaling approximately 278,000 sq. ft. at Cole-related retail properties through the first half of 2011.

The leases consist of approximately 129,000 sq. ft. of new leases and approximately 149,000 sq. ft. in renewals, bringing the occupancy rate for Cole’s portfolio of more than 1,450 properties to 97.3%.
