Pep Boys has signed a 10-year lease for 5,000 sq. ft. at Orchard Square center in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Kennesaw, Ga. — Pep Boys has signed a 10-year lease for 5,000 sq. ft. at Orchard Square center in Kennesaw, Georgia.

According to the landlord, Westwood Financial Corp., one of the nation’s largest privately held retail shopping center owners, the space was expanded by 1,000 sq. ft. to 5,000 sq. ft. to meet Pep Boys’ current prototype.

The Pep Boys – Manny, Moe & Jack reported net earnings of $5.4 million for the second quarter, down from $33 million in the year-ago quarter.

Philadelphia -- The Pep Boys – Manny, Moe & Jack reported net earnings of $5.4 million for the second quarter, down from $33 million in the year-ago quarter.

Sales for the quarter increased 0.4% to $527.6 million, from $525.7 million for the prior-year quarter. Same-store sales dipped 1.3%.

The company is looking for heavier consumer demand for tires to help turn around disappointing net earnings and same-store sales trends during the second quarter of fiscal 2013.

Philadelphia – The Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack has acquired 17 Discount Tire Centers in Southern California from AKH Co. These 17 stores are located throughout the greater Los Angeles market, from Bakersfield to Orange County.

Philadelphia -- The Pep Boys – Manny, Moe & Jack named Chris Adams as SVP store operations.

Since 2010, Adams has served as COO of CarGroup Holdings LLC d/b/a Webuyanycar.com, where he was responsible for launching the U.S. operations of the successful U.K.-based car-buying service. Adams began his career at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

The Pep Boys has named David Stern as executive VP, CFO, effective Sept. 10.

Philadelphia -- The Pep Boys has named David Stern as executive VP, CFO, effective Sept. 10.  He will oversee the finance function, as well as technology and corporate development.

Stern most recently served as executive VP, chief administrative officer and CFO for A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts. Prior to that, he held roles at Coldwater Creek.

The Pep Boys — Manny, Moe & Jack, has agreed to be taken private by private equity firm The Gores Group for about $791 million. The total transaction, including debt, is valued at about $1 billion.

Under the terms of the buyout, the Los Angeles-based Gores Group will pay Pep Boys shareholders $15 a share, 24% above the closing price on Friday.

Philadelphia — Comparable sales for the third quarter took a slight dip at The Pep Boys due to continued weakness in the company's retail segment. The company reported that comparable sales fell 0.4%, consisting of a 0.4% comparable service revenue increase and a 0.6% comparable merchandise sales decrease. Total sales increased 5.2% to $522.2 million, from $496.4 million for the same period last year.
