Winter is fast approaching — is your facility ready? Statistically speaking nearly 80% of all slip and falls are due to snow and ice, and they occur mainly in parking lots and sidewalks. As an expert witness and consultant in the field of risk and liability due to snow and ice, I see incidences that could have been avoided had the facility performed a pre-season property assessment.

St. Louis -- HBD Construction said Thursday that it teamed with grocer Dierbergs to build a freestanding store in St. Louis that features an underground parking garage.

The 80,000-sq.-ft. store, located on 6.5 acres, is the first St. Louis-area supermarket to offer covered parking, with 42% of its parking spaces planned for a brightly lit lower-level garage. The construction completion date is estimated to be July 31.

Bridgeview, Ill. -- Rose Paving Co. has completed a major parking lot enhancement program at 7-Eleven locations in the northeastern United States. The project, which involved 970,463 sq. ft. of space, spanned the course of five weeks. Work ranged from two-inch mill and overlay to full parking lot reconstruction at more than 75 7-Eleven stores in Maryland, New Jersey, and Virginia -- all while stores remained open.

Rosemont, Ill. -- McShane Construction Co. said Tuesday it has been awarded a three-story, 586-space parking structure project on behalf of developer Casto Lifestyle Properties. 

The new construction assignment is located at Randhurst Village in Mount Prospect, Ill., a 100-acre, mixed-use redevelopment project of the former Randhurst Mall that will feature retail, dining, entertainment and hospitality components.
