Vitamin Shoppe said Monday it has opened its first international franchised Vitamin Shoppe store, located in Panama City.

Bergen, N.J. -- Vitamin Shoppe said Monday it has opened its first international franchised Vitamin Shoppe store, located in Panama City. The store, which opened March 4, is owned and operated by franchisee Reprico.

"We're excited to partner with Reprico and bring the Vitamin Shoppe to Panama," said Musab Balbale, director of new business for the Vitamin Shoppe. "Our focus on delighting the customer with knowledge and great service will make us a trusted source for our customers in Panama."

Vitamin Shoppe Inc. said its fourth-quarter net income rose 3% to $9.7 million, up from $9.4 million in the year-ago period.

GNC Holdings is bullish on expansion. Reporting impressive results for the fourth quarter, the retailer plans to open approximately 150 net new U.S. stores in 2013, along with 30 net new domestic franchise locations, and 175-200 net new international franchise locations.

The Vitamin Shoppe announced that it has closed on the previously announced purchase of Super Supplements, a specialty retailer of vitamins, minerals and supplements for approximately $50 million.

North Bergen, N.J. -- The Vitamin Shoppe announced that it has closed on the previously announced purchase of Super Supplements, a specialty retailer of vitamins, minerals and supplements for approximately $50 million. The acquisition was funded with available cash. 

The transaction was structured as a purchase of Super Supplements' assets by a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Vitamin Shoppe. Super Supplements is headquartered in Seattle, Washington and operates 31 stores in the Pacific Northwest.

The Vitamin Shoppe said it was notified by the FTC that it has been cleared to acquire Super Supplements, with a targeted closing date of Feb. 15.

North Bergen, N.J. -- The Vitamin Shoppe said Monday it was notified by the FTC that it has been cleared to acquire Super Supplements, with a targeted closing date of Feb. 15.

In December, the vitamin retailer had announced it would purchase the assets of Super Supplements, a specialty retailer of vitamin, mineral and supplements, for $50 million.  

Super Supplements operates 31 stores in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, and expands Vitamin Shoppe's presence in the Pacific Northwest where it currently operates 17 stores.

Vitapath, a subsidiary of U.S.-based Vitamin Shoppe, has opened its first two Canadian stores in the greater Toronto area in Newmarket and Leaside.

Vitamin Shoppe Inc. reported that net income for the third quarter leaped 36.8% to $16.3 million, from $11.9 million last year.

North Bergen, N.J. -- Vitamin Shoppe Inc. reported Tuesday that net income for the third quarter leaped 36.8% to $16.3 million, from $11.9 million last year.

Revenue rose 14.4% to $239 million, missing Wall Street’s expectations of $241.8 million in revenue. Same-store sales surged 9.6%, marking the company’s 28th consecutive quarter of positive comps.

For the current year, Vitamin Shoppe said it expects to open 52 new stores and, for fiscal 2013, the preliminary forecast is to open 57 new stores.

Vitamin Shoppe Inc. reported that net income for the second quarter surged 38.8% to $16.6 million, compared with $12 million in the year-ago period and marking the third straight quarter of profit increases.

Revenue rose 13.4% to $245 million, beating Wall Street’s expected $241.8 million in revenue.

The company said it is on track to open 52 stores in fiscal 2012.

Vitamin Shoppe reported that net income for the quarter ended March 31 rose to $18.3 million, from $11.6 million in the same period last year.

North Bergen, N.J. -- Vitamin Shoppe reported Tuesday that net income for the quarter ended March 31 rose to $18.3 million, from $11.6 million in the same period last year.

Sales surged 14.4% to $248.1 million, boosted by a strong 9.6% rise in same-store sales. E-commerce sales rose 15.5% in the quarter.

The vitamin retailer said it plans to open 52 new stores in fiscal 2012.

GNC Holdings reported that net income for the fourth quarter rose to $37.7 million, compared with $18.8 million a year earlier.

Pittsburgh -- GNC Holdings reported Thursday that net income for the fourth quarter rose to $37.7 million, compared with $18.8 million a year earlier.

Revenue increased 17% to $509.6 million in the quarter; domestic same-store sales rose 12.1%.

In 2012, GNC plans to open approximately 125 net new domestic retail locations, 15 net new domestic franchise locations, 150 net new international franchise locations, and 50 net new GNC-Rite Aid store-within-a-store locations.

Vitamin Shoppe reported Thursday that net income in the second quarter increased 64% to $11.95 million, compared with $7.3 million in the year-ago period.

North Bergen, N.J. -- Vitamin Shoppe reported Thursday that net income in the second quarter increased 64% to $11.95 million, compared with $7.3 million in the year-ago period. The retailer cited strong sales both in-store and online for its improved performance.

Revenue rose 12.3% to $215.9 million, topping Wall Street expectations.  Same-store sales increased 8% in the quarter.

Vitamin Shoppe said it is on track to open 48 new stores in the fiscal year.

GNC Holdings announced Monday that its president and chief merchandising and marketing officer Beth Kaplan has resigned the company.

Pittsburgh -- GNC Holdings announced Monday that its president and chief merchandising and marketing officer Beth Kaplan has resigned the company.

After three-and-a-half years in the position, Kaplan cited a desire to pursue personal interests as reason for the departure. She will also resign as a director of the company.

Joe Fortunato, CEO, will reassume the title of president of GNC.

In related news, Amy B. Lane has joined GNC Holdings’ board of directors, replacing Kaplan.

General Nutrition Centers has dramatically reduced its energy consumption while improving store aesthetics by switching to LED lamps. The chain is in the final stages of completing a retrofit of some 2,700 company-owned North American stores. 


GNC has employed a variety of lighting technologies over the years, always keeping energy consumption in mind. But it came to a point where the chain wanted an even more energy-efficient turnkey solution, one that would reduce costs and add to store appearance.

The Association’s 2011  Restaurant Industry Forecast projects an industry sales increase of 3.6% over 2010 sales, which equals 1.1% in real (inflation-adjusted) terms.
