OfficeMax has signed a lease agreement to open the first of its business solutions center concept stores in Chicago.

Naperville, Ill. – OfficeMax has signed a lease agreement to open the first of its business solutions center concept stores in Chicago. The 3,900-sq.-ft. store, located in a currently unoccupied space at 550 St. Clair Street in the Streeterville neighborhood, will open later this summer and cater to the needs of business customers.

Special services for business customers will include enhanced technology support, marketing, document and shipping services, and expert associates.

Naperville, Ill. – OfficeMax shareholders will vote on a proposed merger with Office Depot on July 10, in a special meeting to be in Naperville, Ill. Shareholders of record as of May 28, 2013 are eligible to participate.

Shareholders will vote on a merger initially announced by OfficeMax and Office Depot on February 20, 2013. The merger process is ongoing and the transaction is expected to be completed by the end of this year subject to shareholder and regulatory approval.

Total sales edged up 0.5% to $1.9 billion. In the retail segment, sales dipped 2.7% to $912.3 million; same-stores sales fell 2.1%.

OfficeMax reported that net income for the quarter ended Sept. 24 rose to $21.5 million, compared with $20 million in the year-ago period.

Naperville, Ill. -- OfficeMax reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended Sept. 24 rose to $21.5 million, compared with $20 million in the year-ago period.

Sales dipped 2.1% to $1.77 billion from $1.81 billion, barely meeting Wall Street’s expected $1.807 billion. Same-store sales dropped 4.3%.

“We remain focused on driving operational efficiencies as we position the company for long-term growth," said Ravi Saligram, president and CEO, OfficeMax.

OfficeMax said it is amending two credit lines and consolidated them into a new $650 million revolving credit facility that expires in October 2016.

The two existing agreements included a $700 million U.S. credit facility and a $60 million Canadian facility ($59.1 million U.S.) that were set to expire in July 2012.

There are currently no outstanding borrowings under the facility.
