New York -- Bang & Olufsen unveiled its first newly redesigned store concept in North America, at the new Madison Avenue location in New York City. The 1,400-sq.-ft. store is designed to evoke a true sensory experience and demonstrate Bang & Olufsen's commitment to providing extraordinary consumer experiences.  

Other locations in New York City will adopt the new design, as well as a handful of additional locations across the United States next fiscal year.

Chain Store Age's 49th annual SPECS store development conference officially kicked off on Monday morning at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas with two kinds of inspiration: Greg Buzek, president of IHL Group, introduced the Retail Orphan Initiative, and U.S. Navy Seal Scott Taylor presented Afterburner Black Ops, challenging the audience of retailers in design, construction, facilities, store planning and development to use Seal techniques to run their organizations.

The Wet Seal said that its SVP store operations Barbara Cook has resigned the company, effective Feb. 20.

Foothill Ranch, Calif. — The Wet Seal said Monday that its  SVP store operations Barbara Cook has resigned the company, effective Feb. 20.

Wet Seal said Cook has accepted a new position elsewhere, after joining Wet Seal in late 2011.

Mood Media announced that it is consolidating its portfolio companies — Muzak, DMX and Mood Media — into a single global brand under the Mood banner.

Toronto -- Mood Media announced that it is consolidating its portfolio companies — Muzak, DMX and Mood Media — into a single global brand under the Mood banner. Mood acquired Muzak, which was founded in 1934, in 2011.  

“It’s the end of an iconic American brand,” said Lorne Abony, chairman and CEO Mood Media, in a New York Times report.

Wet Seal Inc. said it has named Clinton Group nominee Lynda Davey as chairman of the board.

Foothill Ranch, Calif. -- Wet Seal Inc. said Wednesday it has named Clinton Group nominee Lynda Davey as chairman of the board. Davey is the former chairman and CEO of Avalon Group Ltd. and will replace the recently departed Harold Kahn.

The announcement follows earlier news that four Clinton Group nominees joined the Wet Seal board of directors: Davey, Dorrit Bern, Mindy Meads and John Mills.

If my sense of the retail landscape is correct, I think it’s possible we’ll see prices increase as Christmas gets closer.

Supporting continued strength in the luxury sector, Tiffany & Co. reported Friday that profit for the quarter ended July 31 soared 33% to $90 million, from $67.7 million a year earlier.

New York City -- Supporting continued strength in the luxury sector, Tiffany & Co. reported Friday that profit for the quarter ended July 31 soared 33% to $90 million, from $67.7 million a year earlier. Results surpassed Wall Street estimates, and the jewelry retailer raised its full-year profit outlook.

Revenue surged 30% in the quarter, to $872.7 million, beating analysts’ expected $785.6 million.  Same-store sales jumped 22%.

The Wet Seal reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended July 30 rose to $2.2 million from $1.6 million.

Foothill Ranch, Calif. -- The Wet Seal reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended July 30 rose to $2.2 million from $1.6 million.

Sales rose to $148.8 million, compared with $131.5 million a year earlier.  Same-store sales increased 6%, the strongest second-quarter comps since 2005, according to the company.

Looking ahead, Wet Seal said it plans to spend $17 million to $18 million in fiscal 2011 on construction of new stores or remodeling of existing stores upon lease renewals and/or store relocations.

The Wet Seal reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended April 30 rose to $8 million, compared with $3.1 million a year earlier.

Foothill Ranch, Calif. -- The Wet Seal reported Thursday that net income for the quarter ended April 30 rose to $8 million, compared with $3.1 million a year earlier.

Revenue rose to $156 million from $137.8 million. Same-store sales increased 7%.

Wet Seal said it expects eight net new store openings in 2011, with six net openings at Wet Seal and two at Arden B.

Bass Pro Shops is using a custom mix of country music that is delivered via the DMX ProFusion technology. DMX is also providing all the sound systems for each location and will enhance the listener experience with more speaker coverage with 46 additional speakers.

New York City -- Tiffany & Co. reported a 27% gain in third-quarter profit, topping analysts’ estimates, as sales rose globally. The jewelry retailer raised its full-year earnings forecast.

Net income rose to $55.1 million, from $43.3 million in the year-ago period, better than analysts had expected.
