Location-based shopping app shopkick said it has forged a partnership with 228-unit Giant Eagle to implement mobile marketing technology called kickbuys at its grocery stores.

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Location-based shopping app shopkick said Tuesday that it has forged a partnership with 228-unit Giant Eagle to implement mobile marketing technology called kickbuys at its grocery stores.

Kickbuys, according to shopkick, are the first-ever rewards for buying specific products or specific brands at supermarkets. Procter & Gamble, Kraft Foods and Unilever are the partner brands at launch.

Survey results released Monday by ComScore showed that approximately 6.2% of 14 million mobile phone users have scanned a quick response or bar code on their mobile device.

Reston, Va. -- Survey results released Monday by ComScore showed that approximately 6.2% of 14 million mobile phone users have scanned a quick response or bar code on their mobile device.

Among 14,452 users surveyed in that have scanned a QR or bar code, 58% of them scanned a code at home, while 39.4% and 24.5% of respondents have scanned codes at a retail store or grocery store, respectively. As far as what they scanned, 49.4% said they scanned a QR or bar code found in a newspaper or magazine, while 35.3% scanned product packaging.

Indianapolis -- Simon Property Group has launched the Simon Mobile Shopper Club. More than 180 Simon malls will now interact with shoppers who want to receive news of special deals and events on their mobile device via text messaging (SMS).

When a shopper opts-in to the Simon Mobile Shopper Club at their favorite Simon mall, they will receive alerts on special retailer sales or events, such as Santa's arrival. While at the mall, shoppers will be encouraged to interact via SMS and even play text-in games for a chance to win great prizes.
