Target Corp. on Thursday named retail and consumer products veteran Brian Cornell as its new CEO and chairman of the board, effective Aug. 12.

Minneapolis -- Target Corp. on Thursday named retail and consumer products veteran Brian Cornell as its new CEO and chairman of the board, effective Aug. 12.

Cornell, 55, most recently served as CEO of PepsiCo American Foods. Before joining Pepsi in 2012, he served as president and CEO of Sam's Club. Cornell also held the position of CEO of Michaels Stores and, prior to that, executive VP and chief marketing officer of Safeway.

Grocery retailer Roundy’s said it had entered into definitive agreements to sell 18 Rainbow stores in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market to a group of local grocers, including Supervalu.

Minneapolis -- Grocery retailer Roundy’s said it had entered into definitive agreements to sell 18 Rainbow stores in the Minneapolis/St. Paul market to a group of local grocers, including Supervalu.

The sale price is $65 million, and Roundy’s said it is seeking buyers for a remaining nine Rainbow stores so that it can fully exit the Minneapolis/St. Paul market.

The transaction is expected to close during the third quarter of this year.

The existing 7,196-sq.-ft. store is the retailer’s only downtown location following the consolidation of several brands and stores over the last six months. The chain operates five more locations in Minnesota and one in Illinois.

Minneapolis City Center is the two-story retail portion of a 1.6 million mixed-use property owned by Shorenstein Properties LLC.

Minneapolis – The hackers responsible for the recent Target data breach reportedly gained initial access to the retailer’s network using credentials stolen from a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) vendor. According to the New York Times, the hackers, using the vendor’s access, were able to break into Target’s network and from there were able to compromise a server storing the personal data of 70 million customers, as well as in-store POS systems that allowed access to 40 million credit and debit card numbers.
