Xerox said it is expanding its retail services portfolio with the acquisition of Restaurant Technology Services from McDonald’s Corp.

Dallas -- Xerox said Wednesday it is expanding its retail services portfolio with the acquisition of Restaurant Technology Services from McDonald’s Corp.

RTS provides service desk support through more than 600 employees, who assist more than 17,000 McDonald’s restaurants located in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and China by resolving technical issues related to point-of-sale equipment, kitchen video devices, and “cashless” credit card processing devices.

McDonald’s Corp. reported that same-store sales overall increased 3.7% in the month of August.

Oak Brook, Ill. -- McDonald’s Corp. reported Tuesday that same-store sales overall increased 3.7% in the month of August.

By segment, same-store sales rose 3% in the U.S., 3.1% in Europe, and a hearty 5.7% in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

Systemwide sales for the month increased 1.2%.

McDonald’s Corp. is testing a mobile payments service with PayPal in 30 McDonald’s locations in France.

New York -- McDonald’s Corp. is testing a mobile payments service with PayPal in 30 McDonald’s locations in France.

Using the service, McDonald's customers can order food on smartphones through a McDonald's application, or online, and then pay for their food with PayPal via either the McDonald’s mobile app or a web browser. There is a separate line in the test locations to pick up the meals, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

McDonald’s Corp. announced that vice chairman and CEO Jim Skinner will retire on June 30.

Oak Brook, Ill. -- McDonald’s Corp. announced Wednesday that vice chairman and CEO Jim Skinner will retire on June 30.

Skinner will be succeeded by current president and COO Dan Thompson, 48, effective July 1.

McDonald’s Corp. reported that consolidated revenues for fiscal 2011 rose 12% to a record-high $27 billion.

Oak Brook, Ill. -- McDonald’s Corp. reported Tuesday that consolidated revenues for fiscal 2011 rose 12% to a record-high $27 billion. The restaurant chain also said that global same-store sales increased 5.6% for the year ended Dec. 31, with positive comps across all geographic segments for every quarter.

"During 2011, McDonald's continued momentum drove higher profitability and market share gains as we fortified our leadership position around the world," said McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner.

McDonald’s Corp. plans to build the largest restaurant in its system as part of its role as official restaurant of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

New York City -- McDonald’s Corp. plans to build the largest restaurant in its system as part of its role as official restaurant of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The chain has been an Olympics sponsor since 1976.

Speaking in a global webcast on July 20, McDonald's UK CEO Jill McDonald said the planned restaurant will span 32,290 sq.-ft. over two levels, and will have a kitchen four times standard size to accommodate the crowds. The chain says it expects to serve 1.75 million meals during the games, which run from July 27 to Aug. 12, 2012.
