New York -- The National Retail Federation on Wednesday criticized a fire-and-building safety agreement for Bangladesh, led by labor groups such as Europe's IndustriALL.  

"While the proposal put forth by the labor unions addresses a number of shared concerns, the accord veers away from commonsense solutions and seeks to advance a narrow agenda driven by special interests," NRF CEO Matthew Shay said in a statement.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has terminated a supplier that made apparel at the Bangladesh factory where an estimated 124 people died in a fire on Nov. 24.

New York -- According to a Tuesday report by Bloomberg, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has terminated a supplier that made apparel at the Bangladesh factory where an estimated 124 people died in a fire on Nov. 24.

The Tazreen Fashion-owned factory will no longer produce merchandise for Walmart, according to the report, which also stated that Tazreen subcontracted work without Wal-Mart Stores’ authorization. The supplier has not been named.

Tuesday Morning Corp. said it has ousted CEO Kathleen Mason and will launch a search for a new chief executive.

Dallas -- Tuesday Morning Corp. said Wednesday it has ousted CEO Kathleen Mason and will launch a search for a new chief executive.

Mason was named president and CEO in 2000 and has come under fire as the closeout retailer has suffered slowing sales and widening losses.

Tuesday Morning also announced that executive VP and COO Michael Marchetti has been promoted to president and COO and will service as interim CEO until a successor for Mason is found.

West Marine Inc. reported Thursday that its net revenues for the quarter ended July 3 were $233.4 million, an increase of 8.4% over the year-ago period.

Same-store sales jumped 9.4%.

According to the company, sales benefitted from warmer weather in the northeast. However, “in the southeast, we have been starting to feel the effects of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico as boating activities are increasingly restricted,” said Geoff Eisenberg, CEO.
