Coinstar has announced a new feature available at some Coinstar kiosks that enables consumers to deposit or withdraw funds from their PayPal accounts, as well as send money to another PayPal account.

Bellevue, Wash. -- Coinstar has announced a new feature available at some Coinstar kiosks that enables consumers to deposit or withdraw funds from their PayPal accounts, as well as send money to another PayPal account.

The rollout began in February in Texas, Northern California, and Ohio, and will continue at select kiosks throughout the year, said the company.

Sam's Club has become the first warehouse club retailer to install SoloHealth's comprehensive health-and-wellness screening kiosks, SoloHealth announced.

Atlanta -- Sam's Club has become the first warehouse club retailer to install SoloHealth's comprehensive health-and-wellness screening kiosks, SoloHealth announced Wednesday.

SoloHealth said it will begin the rollout of its SoloHealth Station to more than 500 Sam's Club locations nationwide. The kiosks, currently available in select U.S. retail locations, is expected to be in more than 2,500 retail locations by mid-2013.

Walmart is piloting its Scan & Go program in its Rogers, Ark. store. The system is not designed for mobile payment transactions but rather to allow shoppers to complete purchases as they shop in the store.

The 2012 North American Kiosk Study finds that self-checkout shipments are increasing 8% year to year, with self-checkout transactions exceeding $255 billion annually in North America. Kooking Transactions are growing better than 7% per year in North America, and expected to grow past $1.0 trillion by 2014.

Coinstar Inc. said it has completed its $100 million acquisition of DVD rental kiosks and other assets from rival NCR Corp.

Bellevue, Wash. -- Coinstar Inc. said Monday it has completed its $100 million acquisition of DVD rental kiosks and other assets from rival NCR Corp.
 
Under the terms of the deal, Coinstar will buy products and services from NCR. According to Coinstar, the addition of the kiosks will allow its Redbox DVD rental kiosks to expand to new retail partners.

The kiosks will feature a variety of Seattle's Best Coffee beverages.

Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. -- Redbox Automated Retail, a division of Coinstar, announced Tuesday it has renewed its agreement with Walmart to continue featuring Redbox kiosks at more than 3,700 Walmart locations nationwide.

The agreement extends the availability of Redbox kiosks and builds upon the companies' more than five-year relationship, said Redbox.

The first Redbox kiosks were installed in Walmart stores in 2006.

Rite Aid is planning to roll out 3-D holographic display kiosks in its stores next year, according to the kiosks' manufacturer.

Chatsworth, Calif. — Rite Aid is planning to roll out 3-D holographic display kiosks in its stores next year, according to the kiosks' manufacturer.

In a letter to shareholders, Provision Interactive Technologies president and CEO Curt Thornton wrote that it would place its 3-D Reward Centers in Rite Aid stores, starting with 200 locations and, according to the agreement between the two companies, eventually installing the kiosks in up to 4,800 stores. Rite Aid currently has 4,679 stores.

T-Mobile USA announced Thursday the rollout of a new global design for nearly 400 new and remodeled stores across the country.

Bellevue, Wash. -- T-Mobile USA announced Thursday the rollout of a new global design for nearly 400 new and remodeled stores across the country. The move follows successful test pilots in Tukwila, Wash., and in New York City at Seventh Ave. and 48th St.,

T-Mobile said it adopted the new design format from its parent company, Deutsche Telekom AG, which has received positive customer feedback for this new design in retail stores across Europe.

Coinstar kiosks are to be installed in Safeway stores and its banners including Vons, Dominick's, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Genuardi's, Pavilions, Carrs and Pak N' Save. Installations are planned to begin this month, according to the companies.

Dallas -- Talent software firm PeopleAnswers said Thursday that RadioShack Corp. will utilize the PeopleAnswers talent assessment software for all positions in nearly 5,800 company-operated stores and kiosks as well as corporate offices across the United States and Puerto Rico.

According to the company, RadioShack will use PeopleAnswers to prescreen, assess and hire job candidates for all positions including sales associates, store and district managers and corporate positions. With RadioShack attracting approximately one million job candidates per year, the web-based tool has the scale to evaluate candidates as needed, 24/7, integrate with job boards and track candidates’ progress through the application and hiring process, said PeopleAnswers.

“RadioShack is focused on strengthening our brand and growing our business. People make the difference in executing our growth strategy,” said Mary Ann Doran, senior VP human resources, RadioShack.

RadioShack has been using PeopleAnswers for approximately 18 months as a tool to help select and hire district managers nationwide. For the last year, the company has used PeopleAnswers to hire its store managers and sales associates.

Borders Group said Monday that it is selling its kiosk business Day by Day Calendar Co. for an undisclosed sum.

Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Borders Group said Monday that it is selling its kiosk business Day by Day Calendar Co. for an undisclosed sum.

The sale involves 420 kiosk retail outlets, which will be purchased by Calendar Holdings LLC, based in Texas.

According to the Detroit News, the sale could provide Borders with cash while the company works with creditors to restructure its debt.

Hartford, Conn. -- Best Buy Co. has settled a Connecticut lawsuit that accused the retailer of advertising lower prices on some items on its website than at in-store kiosks, then overcharging customers at the stores.

Best Buy did not admit wrongdoing as part of the 2007 lawsuit's settlement, filed Monday in Hartford Superior Court. The retailer agreed to pay $399,000 to Connecticut's government general fund and reimburse affected customers for the difference between the online prices and the higher in-store kiosk prices they were charged.

New York City -- Movie merchandise seller National Entertainment Collectibles said Thursday that it had acquired most of the assets of Movie Gallery, which has been liquidating its Hollywood Video, Movie Gallery and Game Crazy stores.

Movie Gallery, once the nation's second-largest video and game rental chain with 4,000 stores in the United States and Canada, filed for bankruptcy in February. In October, a federal bankruptcy judge in Richmond, Va., approved the auction of its brand names, Internet domain names and customer databases.

Over the last few months, GGP converted over 50,000 incandescent lights to energy-efficient LED lights in over 135 malls. The new LED lamps produce brighter light levels, last longer, lower carbon emissions, and reduce energy consumption by at least 85%, according to the mall owner.
