The retailer, which specializes in fashionable yoga clothing, opened 10 stores in Southern California in 2012, and is now expanding into the Bay Area. Lorna Jane is also looking at locations in Corte Madera, San Jose, Palo Alto and Walnut Creek, as it looks to open 15 more stores by the end of this year, the report said.

North Plainfield, N.J.-based Levin Management Corp. said that Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet has leased 8,500 sq. ft. at Blue Star Shopping Center in Watchung, N.J., becoming the latest eatery to join the 419,000-sq.-ft. retail property.

Watchung, N.J. -- North Plainfield, N.J.-based Levin Management Corp. said that Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet has leased 8,500 sq. ft. at Blue Star Shopping Center in Watchung, N.J., becoming the latest eatery to join the 419,000-sq.-ft. retail property.

The free-standing restaurant will open in early 2013.

Levin Management is the shopping center’s leasing and managing agent. Blue Star is anchored by Kohl's, ShopRite, Marshalls (which recently extended its long-term lease), Michaels and Toys "R" Us.

The holiday has gone mobile as well. More than one-quarter (29%) of smartphone and tablet owners plan to shop online on Cyber Monday on their devices.

Shopping center owner DDR Corp. said Tuesday that four new Shoe Carnival stores will open at DDR shopping centers in 2012.

Beachwood, Ohio -- Shopping center owner DDR Corp. said Tuesday that four new Shoe Carnival stores will open at DDR shopping centers in 2012.

The new stores are a result of DDR's focus to consolidate small shop space by reconfiguring and re-leasing space to national retailers, improving tenant mix and the quality of cash flow. At three of the shopping centers, multiple small shop units have been combined to accommodate the new Shoe Carnival stores. The fourth center is located in Puerto Rico.

The sales and deep discounts are tempting, but wading through crowds and fighting for parking spaces is not my idea of a “happy” holiday. But I have plenty of friends and family – and I’m sure you do too – who look forward to Black Friday with the anticipatory excitement of kids on Christmas Eve.

Wayne, N.J. -- Toys “R” Us will again give its loyalty rewards members 10% back on holiday purchases.

The offer, whereby members of the chain’s rewards club get 10% back in “R Us” dollars for each dollar spent on qualifying purchases, is available from Oct. 30 through Christmas Eve. The promotional dollars will be sent to customers via email in January and can be used on future in-store purchases.

New York City -- Most than a quarter of Americans expect to spend less during the holidays this year, according to a survey by American’s Research Group, Reuters reported.

About 27% of people surveyed said they planned to spend less this year, while about 55% expect to spend only as much as last year. The question was one of several asked exclusively for Reuters as part of a larger America's Research Group survey.

In 2010, the chain opened some 600 temporary Toys “R” Us stores nationwide. But spokeswoman Kathleen Waugh said the company has decided to open fewer stores this holiday season, according to the report.

From where I sit, I’ve noticed a certain “buzz” of optimism in our industry -- frustrations and anxieties from a tough couple of years seem to be giving way to increasingly sunny retail sales forecasts. Wheaton, Ill. -- Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based Mid-America Asset Management said that Yoga By Degrees and Smashburger recently signed leases at Rice Lake Square in Wheaton, Ill., a western suburb of Chicago.

The independently owned yoga studio is slated to open this spring in 4,598 sq. ft. of space. Denver-based Smashburger, a privately held gourmet burger chain, leased 2,200 sq. ft. of space, with plans to open this summer.

Rice Lake Square is a 251,313-sq.-ft. shopping center anchored by Whole Foods, Stein Mart, Borders and PetSmart.

Canadian golf retailer Golf Town said Thursday it has opened its first five stores in the United States, all located in the greater Boston area.

Toronto -- Canadian golf retailer Golf Town said Thursday it has opened its first five stores in the United States, all located in the greater Boston area.

The $25 million U.S. market expansion includes stores in Avon, Bellingham, Reading, Seekonk and Watertown, Mass., all of which opened on March 24 and total about 100,000 sq. ft. A sixth store is slated to open in Northborough, Mass. in the fall.

However, the strongest driver of Black Friday shopping is children, as 43% of households with kids are planning to shop on that day. Additionally, 37% of households reported that they plan to shop on the Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving.
