J.C. Penney has set a March 15 launch date for the debut of its Joe Fresh in-store shop concept.

New York -- J.C. Penney has set a March 15 launch date for the debut of its Joe Fresh in-store shop concept. The Canadian fast-fashion apparel brand will be presented in dedicated shops, ranging from 750 sq. ft. to 2,500 sq. ft., in nearly 700 J.C. Penney stores.

The Joe Fresh collection will focus on modern basics for women, with everything priced under $70, according to J.C. Penney.

A new, kids-only sports store in Manhattan, Rookie USA, is utilizing the latest in innovative HD projection and audio-visual technology to engage and inform shoppers.

The technology, the Tensator Virtual Assistant, projects an image of New York Knicks’ player Carmelo Anthony that, at nearly 7 ft., captivates shoppers with its 3D look and feel. The image provides store and branding information, and even shares basketball tips. It also incorporates surround-sound audio and video.

The retailer has deployed tabletop digital signage displays that run on rechargeable batteries, eliminating the need for any external power. The freestanding portable displays, from BrightSign, measure 10.5” x 19.9” x 9.9,” and feature a built-in 12.1” high-resolution screen and media player. They are self-contained and enclosed in a sleek steel display tower.

Uniqlo’s, the expansion-minded Japanese apparel retailer, has opened its largest store in the world, an 89,000-sq.-ft., three-level flagship on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

Designed by the cutting-edge Japanese firm Wonderwall, the new Uniqlo is sleek and futuristic. It is massive in scale, with 100 fitting rooms, 45 checkouts, 100 LCD and LED screens, four glass elevators and an escalator that takes customers from the entry directly to the third level, which is the main selling floor.

Uniqlo is popping-up all over Manhattan. As the prelude to the opening of its Fifth Avenue global flagship in October, the Japanese apparel retailer opened four temporary “Brand Shops” around the city. Each location is cleverly designed and smartly outfitted.
