Hibbett Sports Inc. has promoted Jared Briskin to senior VP and chief merchant.

Birmingham, Ala. – Hibbett Sports Inc. has promoted Jared Briskin to senior VP and chief merchant. Briskin replaces Rebecca Jones, who left the company.

Briskin has been with Hibbett for more than 16 years, starting as a buyer and most recently serving as VP divisional merchandise manager of footwear and equipment.

Men's Wearhouse has named Scott Norris as Men's Wearhouse brand and Moores brand president, and Paul Fitzpatrick has been named Jos. A. Bank's brand president.

Fremont, Calif. - Men's Wearhouse has named Scott Norris as Men's Wearhouse brand and Moores brand president, and Paul Fitzpatrick has been named Jos. A. Bank's brand president. In addition, Jim Thorne was named executive VP direct sourcing.

All three will report to Mary Beth Blake, the company's president and chief merchandising officer.

In its latest management shakeup, American Apparel has named Scott Brubaker as interim CEO, effective immediately.

Los Angeles -- In its latest management shakeup, American Apparel has named Scott Brubaker as interim CEO, effective immediately. He replaces John Luttrell, who is resigning. Luttrell took the reins of the troubled company in June after the board removed controversial founder Dov Charney from the top spot for alleged misconduct. He also served as CFO.

Brubaker, 43, is a managing director at consulting/turnaround firm Alvarez & Marsal, and has handled interim leadership jobs for specialty retailers, including Eddie Bauer, in the past.

Macy’s said it plans to hire about 86,000 seasonal associates for its Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores, call centers and distribution and fulfillment centers for the 2014 holiday season, an increase of about 3.6% from 2013.

Cincinnati -- Macy’s said it plans to hire about 86,000 seasonal associates for its Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores, call centers and distribution and fulfillment centers for the 2014 holiday season, an increase of about 3.6% from 2013.

In particular, Macy’s said, its seasonal workforce has grown in recent years in the company’s network of online fulfillment centers in support of increased sales generated by the company’s omnichannel business strategy.

A federal judge has reportedly rejected an Aug. 29 settlement of a lawsuit over the pay received by co-CEO Michael Jeffries.

New Albany, Ohio – A federal judge has reportedly rejected an Aug. 29 settlement of a lawsuit over the pay received by co-CEO Michael Jeffries. According to Reuters, U.S. District Judge James Graham in Columbus, Ohio, said shareholders belonging to the City of Plantation, Florida Police Officers' Employees' Retirement System, who challenged the $140 million in pay and additional travel expenses Jeffries has received since 2007, give up too much in the settlement.

Wal-Mart Stores has appointed Kevin Systrom, CEO and co-founder of photo-sharing service Instagram, as a new member of the company’s board, effective Sept. 26.

Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores has appointed Kevin Systrom, CEO and co-founder of photo-sharing service Instagram, as a new member of the company’s board, effective Sept. 26. Systrom will also serve as a member of the retailer’s technology and e-commerce committee and its compensation, nominating and governance committee (CNGC).

The Container Store has hired Pete Lodwick as VP and general counsel.

Dallas – The Container Store has hired Pete Lodwick as VP and general counsel. Lodwick will lead both internal and external teams responsible for legal strategy, regulatory affairs, and corporate compliance.

Prior to joining The Container Store, Lodwick practiced for 34 years at the Dallas-based law firm Thompson & Knight in the corporate and securities department.

In a surprise announcement, The Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack said that its president, CEO and director Mike Odell has resigned.

Philadelphia -- In a surprise announcement, The Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack said that its president, CEO and director Mike Odell has resigned. Director John Sweetwood was named interim CEO, effective immediately, while the company searches for a permanent CEO.

The departure of Odell, who was appointed CEO of Pep Boys in fall 2008, comes weeks after the auto-parts and service company reported a loss for the second quarter, which it credited to declines in its tire and do-it-yourself segments.

Washington, D.C. -- President Barack Obama announced his intention to appoint Matthew Rubel to an additional term as a member of the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations, a key Administration advisory post.   

Rubel is currently a senior advisor at TPG Capital.  Previously, he was chairman, president and CEO of Collective Brands, from 2005 to 2011. Rubel was CEO of Cole Haan from 1999 to 2005.

Grapevine, Texas – GameStop plans to hire approximately 25,000 employees nationwide as the company prepares for the upcoming holiday shopping season. This year’s total number of seasonal hires is approximately 47% higher when compared to the same period in 2013.

Indianapolis – Hhgregg plans to hire more than 450 home electronics and home appliances sales associates this holiday season to support its 228 stores. Hhgregg is accepting applications for holiday positions starting Sept. 25, and plans to have all new hires on board and in stores by mid-October.

The retailer is seeking to hire both full-time and part-time associates, and though the positions are immediately needed for the holiday shopping season, all new hires will be considered for ongoing employment.

Toronto -- Sears Canada Inc. announced that Douglas C. Campbell, president and CEO, intends to resign and return to the United States by yearend for “personal family” issues. Campbell, formerly COO of Sears Canada, was appointed to the top spot in September 2013, after former head Calvin McDonald quit.  

Campbell was charged with turning around a struggling chain, which has seen eight years of falling sales.

REI announced that Annie Zipfel has been promoted to senior VP marketing. With her, REI will not hire a chief marketing officer as previously announced, but instead add a senior creative leader to the company.

Zipfel joined REI in 2012 as the divisional VP customer marketing, and was named VP of the marketing division in January 2014. Prior to REI, she held leadership and strategic roles at Target and General Mills.

Wayne, N.J. – Toys ‘R Us Inc. plans to hire 45,000 seasonal employees at its stores and distribution centers nationwide, more than doubling the company’s workforce, as it prepares for the 2014 holiday shopping season.

The positions include sales associates, stock crew and omnichannel fulfillment teams, as well as distribution center workers and department managers.

Haggar Clothing Co. has hired Eve Richey as chief digital officer, effective Sept. 15.

Dallas – Haggar Clothing Co. has hired Eve Richey as chief digital officer, effective Sept. 15. Richey, formerly VP of global digital marketing for Toms Shoes, will be responsible for creating a seamless approach to the consumer experience across a variety of shopping channels.

Richey will report directly to Michael Stitt, CEO of Haggar Clothing Co. She brings more than 14 years of experience developing and executing digital omnichannel strategies and implementing e-commerce solutions for brands such as Toms Shoes and Dell.

Albertsons and Safeway Inc. announced the new senior leadership team and division leaders for the combined company that will take effect upon the closing of their proposed merger.

Boise, Idaho - Albertsons and Safeway Inc. announced the new senior leadership team and division leaders  for the combined company that will take effect upon the closing of their proposed merger. The deal is expected to close in a few months.

Safeway president and CEO Robert Edwards will serve as CEO of the combined company and current Albertsons CEO Bob Miller will become executive chairman.

New York -- Fairway Group Holdings Corp. has named Jack Murphy, a veteran retail executive with strong experience in specialty food retailing, as CEO.

Murphy was a co-founder of natural foods grocer Fresh Fields, which was sold to Whole Foods Market. Most recently he served as CEO of Earth Fare, an organics and natural food chain with locations in the Southeast and Midwest.

Pittsburgh -- GNC Holdings named Jeffrey R. Hennion as executive VP, chief marketing and e-commerce officer. Hennion most recently served as president and CFO of mobile commerce provider Branding Build.

Prior to Branding Brand, Hennion led GNC's marketing and e-commerce efforts in 2011 and 2012.  He also spent 10 years with Dick's Sporting Goods in a number of senior leadership roles, including executive VP, chief marketing officer and head of e-commerce.

New York -- Seasonal hiring in the retail sector is expected to outpace 2013, according to a report by Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Retailers are projected to hire more than 800,000 seasonal workers for the upcoming holiday season, the highest number since 1999. In 2013, the retail industry hired 786,200 seasonal workers.
