Safeway in Bozeman, Mont., awarded LEED Silver

Safeway’s store in Bozeman, Mont., was recently awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

New York -- Safeway’s store in Bozeman, Mont., was recently awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. It is the first LEED for Retail certified store in the state of Montana, and one of roughly 200 LEED-certified grocery stores in the United States.

McDonald’s awarded LEED Gold

A McDonald's restaurant in Riverside, Calif., has been LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certified.

Riverside, Calif. -- A McDonald's restaurant in Riverside, Calif., has been LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certified. It is the chain’s first location west of the Mississippi, and only the fourth in the United States, to receive the prestigious designation. Other LEED-certified McDonald's restaurants are located in Cary, N.C., Savannah, Ga. and Chicago.

Food Lion opens third LEED-certified store

Food Lion has opened its third LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified store, in Hope Mills, N.C.

Salisbury, N.C. -- Food Lion has opened its third LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified store, in Hope Mills, N.C.

“By building our third LEED grocery store, we will reduce energy costs by more than 20% compared to a typical supermarket, as well as conserve 40% more water than other Food Lion stores,” said Kyle Mitchell, VP of store development for Delhaize America South. “Food Lion has one of the most advanced retail energy conservation programs in the country.”

TD Bank announced it is building a net-zero energy bank location, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Cherry Hill, N.J. -- TD Bank announced it is building a net-zero energy bank location, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, defines a net-zero energy building as a building that produces and exports in a year at least as much renewable power as the total energy it uses.)

LEED building projects total 1 billion sq. ft.

The total footprint of commercial projects certified under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System has surpassed 1 billion sq. ft.

Washington, D.C. -- The total footprint of commercial projects certified under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System has surpassed 1 billion sq. ft.

Another 6 billion sq. ft. of projects are registered and currently working toward LEED certification worldwide. Since it was first introduced to the marketplace in 2000, more than 36,000 commercial projects have participated in LEED.
