Gordmans names planning, allocation exec

Apparel and home-décor retailer Gordmans said Tuesday it has appointed Geoffrey Ayoub as senior VP planning, allocation and analysis.

Omaha, Neb. -- Apparel and home-décor retailer Gordmans said Tuesday it has appointed Geoffrey Ayoub as senior VP planning, allocation and analysis.

Ayoub joins Gordmans from EDCON, a South African-based retailer operating over 1,000 stores in multiple retail formats throughout five countries. At EDCON, he served as chief planning officer responsible for all aspects of merchandise planning, allocation, replenishment and merchandise analysis.

Gordmans appoints EVP, merchandising chief

Apparel and home décor chain Gordmans announced it has appointed Michael Morand as EVP and chief merchandising officer.

Omaha, Neb. -- Apparel and home décor chain Gordmans announced Monday it has appointed Michael Morand as EVP and chief merchandising officer.

Morand has served as Gordmans' EVP planning, allocation and analysis since 2008. In his new position, he will lead the combined merchandising and planning team and drive the retailer’s continued expansion in both new and existing markets.

Jeff Gordman is following in the family tradition. As president, chairman and CEO of Gordmans, he leads a company whose roots go back nearly 100 years, to when his grandfather opened a store in downtown Omaha in 1915.

From that one store, the company evolved over the years, eventually expanding beyond Nebraska. It also added a discount division, Half Price Stores. By 1990 the company had 32 stores, equally divided between the two divisions.

Gordmans names former Safeway exec to HR post

Midwestern department store retailer Gordmans said that it has named Roger Glenn as senior VP human resources.

Omaha, Neb. -- Midwestern department store retailer Gordmans said that it has named Roger Glenn as senior VP human resources.

Glenn joins Gordmans from Safeway, where he served as group VP for human resources and handled recruitment, employee relations, human resources planning and diversity.

Alliance Data signs multi-year renewal agreement with Gordmans

Loyalty and marketing solution-provider Alliance Data Systems Corp. said that it has signed a multi-year renewal agreement to continue providing the private label credit card program for Omaha-Neb.-based Gordmans Stores, which operates 78 stores in 46 markets across 18 states.

Additionally, Gordmans and Alliance Data have begun a full rollout of Alliance Data's in-store, tablet-based mobile technology to drive account acquisition efforts following a successful pilot earlier in 2012.

Gordmans Q1 net income rises 10%, to open five stores in 2012

Midwestern discount department store retailer Gordman’s Stores said that profit for the quarter ended April 28 rose 10.6% to $8.1 million, compared with $7.3 million in the year-ago period.

Omaha, Neb. -- Midwestern discount department store retailer Gordman’s Stores said Friday that profit for the quarter ended April 28 rose 10.6% to $8.1 million, compared with $7.3 million in the year-ago period.

Sales rose 13.8% to $133.9 million, from $117.7 million. Same-store sales climbed 4.7%.

“We are pleased with our overall performance and remain confident in our ability to realize our sales and profit guidance for fiscal 2012," said Jeff Gordman, president and CEO.

Gordmans profit rises 21% in Q4

Apparel and home décor retailer Gordman Stores reported that net income for the quarter ended Jan. 28 rose 21.2% to $10.2 million, from $8.4 million in the year-ago period.

Gordman’s expanding into Utah

Gordman's will open its first stores in Utah, in March, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

New York City -- Gordman's will open its first stores in Utah, in March, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

The value-priced department store operator will open a store in Farmington’s Station Park shopping center on March 23, and also one in The District shopping center in South Jordan, the report said. A third store is set to open, in Riverdale, in July.

“The Salt Lake MSA [metropolitan statistical area between Ogden and Provo] we see as a significant opportunity for us,” CEO Jeff Gordman said, in the report.

In early 2012, Chuck and Don’s Pet Food Outlet will open a 7,000-sq.-ft. store adjacent to King Soopers grocery store.

Gordmans names former Charming Charlie, Macy’s exec as COO

Apparel and home fashions retailer Gordmans Stores said it has named Michael Wirkkala as executive VP operations and COO.

Omaha, Neb. -- Apparel and home fashions retailer Gordmans Stores said Wednesday it has named Michael Wirkkala as executive VP operations and COO.

Wirkkala was previously VP of store operations for Charming Charlie. He also worked for Macy’s for three decades.

Centro Properties Group US announced that Gordmans opened a 50,000-sq.-ft. store at Westridge Court, located in Naperville, Ill.

The new discount store opened on July 29, joining recently opened retailers Savers thrift store (38,490 sq. ft.) and Dots (4,466 sq. ft.).
