Target Corp. on Thursday named retail and consumer products veteran Brian Cornell as its new CEO and chairman of the board, effective Aug. 12.

Minneapolis -- Target Corp. on Thursday named retail and consumer products veteran Brian Cornell as its new CEO and chairman of the board, effective Aug. 12.

Cornell, 55, most recently served as CEO of PepsiCo American Foods. Before joining Pepsi in 2012, he served as president and CEO of Sam's Club. Cornell also held the position of CEO of Michaels Stores and, prior to that, executive VP and chief marketing officer of Safeway.

Less than two months after resigning as president and CEO of Sam’s Club, Brian Cornell has landed at Purchase, N.Y.-based PepsiCo where he will serve as CEO of the company’s North American food division.

Purchase, N.Y. -- Less than two months after resigning as president and CEO of Sam’s Club, Brian Cornell has landed at Purchase, N.Y.-based PepsiCo where he will serve as CEO of the company’s North American food division.

Cornell will be responsible for Frito-Lay North America, Quaker Foods & Snacks North America, PepsiCo Mexico, South America Foods, PepsiCo customer teams and all of PepsiCo’s Power of One activities within the Americas.

Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores announced a series of management changes that include an unexpected change in leadership at Sam’s Club, and a new chief information officer. The retailer said it has named Rosalind Brewer as president and CEO of Sam's Club. She is the first woman and the first African-American to hold a CEO position at one of the company's business units.

Cornell-Mayo Associates said that Saks Fifth Avenue is piloting its Omniexpress mobile POS application for the iPod at two Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th stores.

Parsippany, N.J. -- Cornell-Mayo Associates said Monday that Saks Fifth Avenue is piloting its Omniexpress mobile POS application for the iPod at two Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th stores.

The pilot is underway at stores in Woodbury Commons, N.Y. and Bergen, N.J., with four iPods in each store. Saks plans to pilot the Omniexpress mobile POS application for the iPod in its Saks Fifth Avenue stores later this month as well as begin the rollout to additional Off 5th and Saks Fifth Avenue stores in spring 2012.
