WS Development, based in Chestnut Hill, Mass., announced plans to build an open-air shopping, dining and entertainment complex in Cheshire, Conn., called The Outlets at Cheshire.

Chestnut Hill, Mass. -- WS Development announced that it will develop an outlet center in Cheshire, Conn. WS Development will introduce leading fashion and designer outlet stores to the 500,000 -sq.-ft. project, which is expected to open in summer 2015.

This open-air shopping, dining and entertainment complex will also include public open space, walkways, recreation amenities, a residential component and full service grocer.

Verge Connect said Wednesday it is powering Fas Mart/Shore Stop’s first smartphone application, which debuted in April across more than 200 locations primarily in Virginia, Connecticut, Maryland and Delaware.

Henderson, N.C. -- Verge Connect said Wednesday it is powering Fas Mart/Shore Stop’s first smartphone application, which debuted in April across more than 200 locations primarily in Virginia, Connecticut, Maryland and Delaware.

The new application, called Fas APP, integrates with the retailer’s new secure payment card.

Fas Mart/Shore Stop, which are owned by GPM Investments, selected the Verge Connect platform to help build the company’s digital and mobile presence.

Dallas -- Corner Bakery Café said Wednesday it plans to open 18 restaurants in the Boston area, joining under-development markets in neighboring Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The bakery-café concept is targeting its growth through franchising deals with restaurant pros capable of opening multiple units. Corner Bakery has set a goal of doubling its current U.S. footprint of 147 locations by the end of 2015.

Saks Inc. announced that it plans to close its Saks Fifth Avenue store located in Stamford Town Center in Stamford, Conn., in early 2014.

New York -- Saks Inc. announced Friday that it plans to close its Saks Fifth Avenue store located in Stamford Town Center in Stamford, Conn., in early 2014.

The shuttering is part of the department store chain’s continued right-sizing strategy. “We routinely evaluate the productivity, profitability, and potential of each of our store locations,” said Steve Sadove, CEO. “This planned closing is consistent with our strategy of utilizing our resources in our most productive Saks Fifth Avenue stores.”

BJ’s taps LogicSource for print procurement and management

Norwalk, Conn. -- BJ’s Wholesale Club has reached a multi-year agreement with LogicSource Inc. to provide enhanced print procurement and management services that will deliver significant cost savings to BJ’s. Terms were not disclosed.

LogicSource will provide onsite co-sourcing for all of BJ’s print procurement needs by collaborating with BJ’s to identify new potential supply chain partners and procurement efficiencies.

New York -- British clothing and accessories retailer Jack Wills Outfitters is opening a new store, in New Canaan, Conn.

The company has chosen builder and general contractor A&O Danner, Inc., of Plymouth, Mass., to complete the buildout. In 2010-11, Danner built two other Jack Wills stores in Connecticut, in Greenwich and Westport.

Dick's Sporting Goods said it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Conn., and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.

In a statement, the retailer said the move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last week's Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The expansion also includes a redesign of the main floor with the creation of a new reception area. A new executive conference room has been added on the first floor, as well as new waiting areas on both floors. A training space has been incorporated into the new design and a new employee café features a Starbucks coffee bar.

Brixmor Property Group announced that Kohl’s has opened a new store at Killingly Plaza, located in Killingly, Conn.

Killingly, Conn. -- Brixmor Property Group announced that Kohl’s has opened a new store at Killingly Plaza, located in Killingly, Conn.

Kohl’s will take 55,068 renovated sq. ft. of the 66,000-sq.-ft. center, which was previously home to Stop & Shop and a Blockbuster video store.

Brixmor, based in New York City, is the owner of Killingly Plaza.

Kohl’s Department Stores announced the grand opening of 12 stores, creating approximately 1,500 jobs nationwide.

Menomonee Falls, Wis. -- Kohl’s Department Stores announced the grand opening of 12 stores, creating approximately 1,500 jobs nationwide. The company now operates 1,146 stores in 49 states.

The company is celebrating the grand opening of 12 stores in 10 states, including Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington. Of the 12 new locations, 11 are small format stores with approximately 64,000 sq. ft. or less of retail space.

Fairway Group Holdings Corp., a chain of natural and organic grocery stores, filed paperwork Monday to take the company public.

Fairway has 11 stores in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. It is 80% owned by Sterling Investment Partners, who will still control the business following the proposed IPO, said the company.

Westport, Conn. -- Charter Realty & Development said that it has arranged a 4,800-sq.-ft. lease for Panera Bread located in the Westport Plaza in Westport, Conn.  

The shopping center is anchored by Home Goods, Walgreens and Pet Supplies Plus. The deal was co-broked by RHYS commercial of Stamford.

In order to make room for Panera, Stride Rite and a nail salon will be relocated.

Foxwoods Resort Casino is the largest casino complex in the United States by gaming square footage. Foxwoods attracts approximately 16 million annual visitors, an average of more than 40,000 people per day.
