The solution, which leverages crowd-sourced labor, is designed to connect customers and retailers with local delivery drivers.

The search giant reportedly wants to open brick-and-mortar stores to showcase its various gadgets, ranging from the Nexus line of smartphones and tablets to the Chromebook Pixel laptop. The company is also getting ready to go public with its Google Glass eyewear and smartwatches.

Effective May 2, the Ikea Mobile Shopping Application will enable customers to browse Ikea's product range, check product information and stock availability. The new application also allows the creation of shopping lists that include the product's location for pick up in the store. Google’s Android operating system runs smartphones that compete with iPhones, BlackBerrys and Windows-based mobile devices. Motorola Mobility was separated from the rest of Motorola in January, and has re-emerged as a maker of Android-based smartphones.

Based on the location of the user, the free app provides detailed store location information including address, phone number and driving directions. Once a store is selected, users have real-time visibility to the specific inventory of that store, effectively giving them remote access to view what’s on the sales floor and in the back room.
