Liberty Center is a 64-acre, 1.1 million-sq.-ft. mixed-use development located in the North Cincinnati market. It will be comprised of 600,000 sq. ft. of retail, including at least one 200,000-sq.-ft. department store and 370,000 sq. ft. of specialty retail and restaurants. Liberty Center will also include 100,000 sq. ft. of Class A Office, a 135-key hotel and 220 luxury residential multi-family units. A 60,000-sq.-ft., 14-screen second-level upscale theater with integrated dining is also planned.

Overstock.com said it has opened a distribution and returns facility in Hebron, Ky., outside Cincinnati.

Salt Lake City -- Overstock.com said Wednesday it has opened a distribution and returns facility in Hebron, Ky., outside Cincinnati.

The facility, the company’s second, will receive product returns and handle outbound shipments.  Overstock.com officials say this additional distribution facility will reduce the time for resolution and refunds for customer returns.  

The company’s primary warehouse will remain in Salt Lake City.

Cincinnati-based Phillips Edison–ARC Shopping Center REIT has announced the acquisition of Macland Pointe, a 79,699-sq.-ft. shopping center anchored by a Publix grocery store and located in the Greater Atlanta, Georgia Metro Area.

Atlanta -- Cincinnati-based Phillips Edison–ARC Shopping Center REIT has announced the acquisition of Macland Pointe, a 79,699-sq.-ft. shopping center anchored by a Publix grocery store and located in the Greater Atlanta, Georgia Metro Area.  

The acquisition of Macland Pointe brings the company's total portfolio to 34 properties anchored by 13 grocers in 15 states.

Macland Pointe is 92.8% occupied and anchored by a 55,999-sq.-ft. Publix.

Macy’s announced a series of changes to its senior executive leadership team, effective immediately.

Cincinnati -- Macy’s on Monday announced a series of changes to its senior executive leadership team, effective immediately. The changes include the creation of the newly-created role of chief omni-channel officer, which will be filled by Robert B. Harrison, previously Macy’s EVP for omni-channel strategy. Harrison, who will join the company’s executive committee, will report directly to Macy’s chief executive Terry Lundgren.

St. Louis -- Famous Footwear, a division of Brown Shoe Co., said Tuesday it has selected Cincinnati-based Empower MediaMarketing as its media agency of record.

Empower will work with Famous Footwear to reach its target customer, as well as to help drive sales online and in-store.
 
“The landscape of paid, owned and earned media continues to change, and Famous Footwear needs to make sure its marketing efforts are effective and efficient,” said Amy Rose, media manager, Famous Footwear.

Macy’s Inc. said it plans to hire approximately 80,000 seasonal associates for its Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores, call centers, distribution centers and online fulfillment centers nationwide for the 2012 holiday season.

Macy's is enhancing its presence in the Las Vegas market.

Cincinnati -- Macy's is enhancing its presence in the Las Vegas market. The department store retailer has signed on as the first anchor tenant at the Shops at Summerlin, in west Las Vegas.  

Macy’s will build a two-level, 180,000-sq.-ft. store in the open- air center, which is being developed by The Howard Hughes Corp. The new Macy’s is expected to open in fall 2014, with construction beginning in fall 2013.

The 1.5 million sq.-ft. Summerlin will feature over 125 stores and restaurants.

The chain said it will the goods through a Macy’s section on Omei.com, a newly established China-based online retailer of in-season luxury and fashion brands operated by VIPStore Co., a Chinese e-commerce firm and parent company of Omei.com

Macy’s will open a store in Sarasota, Fla., in fall 2014.

Cincinnati -- Macy’s will open a store in Sarasota, Fla., in fall 2014. The two-level, 160,000-sq.-ft. Macy’s will be an anchor of the new Mall at University Town Center, which is due to begin construction later this year.

Macy’s currently operates three stores in the Sarasota-Bradenton market – at Southgate Mall, Sarasota Square and DeSoto Square.

Cincinnati -- Mid-America Real Estate Corp.’s Investments Sales Group announced the recent sale of Stone Creek Towne Center located in Cincinnati.

The property was purchased by Oakbrook, Ill.-based Inland Real Estate for $36 million from a joint venture between Brandicorp and Trinity Development Co.

The Kroger Co. reported on Thursday that it posted a loss in the quarter ended Jan. 28, attributing the loss to costs associated with consolidating its pension plan for union workers.

Cincinnati -- The Kroger Co. reported on Thursday that it posted a loss in the quarter ended Jan. 28, attributing the loss to costs associated with consolidating its pension plan for union workers.

The grocer, which counts among its banners Kroger, Ralphs and Food 4 Less, lost $306.9 million in the quarter, compared with a profit of $278.8 million in the year-ago period.

Total sales in the quarter rose 7.7% to $21.4 billion. Excluding fuel, sales rose 5%. Same-store sales increased 4.9%.

New York City -- The latest jewel in the portfolio of Mexican department store operator Liverpool took top honors in Chain Store Age’s 30th annual Retail Store of the Year design competition. The company’s 319,000-sq.-ft. store in the Mexico City suburb of Interlomas was named Store of the Year and was also the winning entry in the Department Store category.

Ikea said that it has officially plugged-in the solar energy system installed at its Cincinnati-area store in West Chester, Ohio.

West Chester, Ohio -- Ikea said Tuesday that it has officially plugged-in the solar energy system installed at its Cincinnati-area store in West Chester, Ohio. 

The 128,000-sq.-ft. PV array consists of a 1,026-kW system, built with 4,186 panels. Ikea West Chester’s program will produce approximately 1,334,300 kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 1,014 tons of carbon dioxide, eliminating the emissions of 180 cars or powering 115 homes yearly.

REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) announced that it will open its first location in Ohio next fall at Rockwood Commons in Cincinnati.

Seattle -- REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) announced that it will open its first location in Ohio next fall at Rockwood Commons in Cincinnati. The one-story location will occupy 22,000 sq. ft. and will serve more than 5,000 active REI members as well as other outdoor enthusiasts in the community.

The company also announced that it will open a store in Medford, Ore. The 23,500-sq.-ft., one-story location will open next fall in Alba Village and help outfit approximately 7,300 local active members and other adventurers.
