Destination XL Group Inc. reported a net loss of $55.1 million for its fourth quarter, compared to net income of $4.2 million in the year-ago period.

Canton, Mass. – Destination XL Group Inc. reported a net loss of $55.1 million for its fourth quarter, compared to net income of $4.2 million in the year-ago period. The chain cited a sluggish retail environment, a shorter holiday selling season and adverse weather conditions as contributing to the disappointing results.

Fourth-quarter revenue increased to $114.9 million, compared with $111.1 million last year, and same-store sales edged up 0.5%. By brand, DXL stores saw a same-store sales rise of 15% in the quarter, while Casual Male dipped 2.3%.

As previously announced, the company's ticker symbol was changed to "DXLG" effective Dec. 5, 2012.

Sales dipped slightly to $88.7 million from $89 million, and same-store sales inched up 1.5%. However, same-store sales for Destination XL rose 13.8% in the quarter.

Casual Male is shifting its focus to its Destination XL (DXL) format.

New York -- Casual Male is shifting its focus to its Destination XL (DXL) format. By the end of 2015, the company expects to have closed all 400 Casual Male stores and have 225 to 250 DXL units, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

The DXL stores feature a wide array of merchandise, including both private label and name brands, and price points that range from the lower-end to the more upscale. By the end of 2012, the company expects to have 51 DXL stores in operation, the report said.

However, continuing strength from the DestinationXL stores vs. the Casual Male XL locations is prompting the company to focus on growing the former.

First-quarter net income dropped 45% at Casual Male Retail Group Inc., hurt by a higher tax rate.

Canton, Mass. -- First-quarter net income dropped 45% at Casual Male Retail Group Inc., hurt by a higher tax rate. The chain’s tax rate jumped to 40.4% from 10.1% due to the reversal of a valuation allowance in fiscal 2011.

The retailer reported Friday that it earned $2.3 million for the three months ended April 28. That's down from $4.2 million in the year-ago period.

Revenue edged up slightly to $95.9 million from $95.8 million on better sales at its DXL and Casual Male XL stores and more money spent per customer.
