Cabela's Inc. said that its co-founder and chairman Richard N. Cabela has transitioned to the role of chairman emeritus, effective June 5, as part of the company’s succession plan.

Dick’s brother, James W. Cabela, co-founder and currently vice chairman, will become chairman following the June 5 annual meeting of shareholders.

SIDNEY, Neb. -- Cabela's Inc. said that it plans to build a 50,000-sq.-ft. store in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. It will be the anchor tenant in the new Grasslands Shopping Centre being developed in Regina.

The new store, which will be the retailer's fourth location in Canada, is expected to in fall 2013 or spring 2014. The company will open a store in Rogers, Ark., on Aug. 30, and Union Gap, Wash., on Oct. 4.

Outdoor-gear retailer Cabela's Inc. reported that net income for the second quarter increased to $33.9 million, from $21.7 million in the year-ago period.

Sidney, Neb. -- Outdoor-gear retailer Cabela's Inc. reported Thursday that net income for the second quarter increased to $33.9 million, from $21.7 million in the year-ago period.

Total revenue rose 11.6% to $627.3 million, boosted by a 17% rise in retail store revenue – to $384.7 million. Analysts forecasted total revenue of $606.3 million.

Same-store sales increased 4.7%.
