New York -- Barneys New York said Thursday it will launch its off-price website Barneyswarehouse.com on Monday, following a two-week pilot in August. Merchandise on the warehouse site will be past-season sale items at discounts of up to 75% off retail, and will be used along with its brick-and-mortar outlets for liquidation.

New York -- Barneys New York and The Walt Disney Company are teaming up on Barneys’ 2012 holiday campaign at Barneys stores in a campaign called Electric Holiday.

The multi-platform initiative will combine fashion and fantasy, merging the creativity and magic of Disney with the wit and surprise of the legendary Barneys New York annual holiday campaign.

New York -- Barneys New York said Tuesday it has promoted Daniella Vitale to the newly created position of COO.

Vitale, since December 2010, has served as the retailer’s chief merchant and executive VP of women’s merchandising and Barneys.com.
With her promotion, Vitale will direct store operations as well as women’s merchandising and barneys.com as chief merchant of the retailer.

Prior to Barneys, Vitale was president of Gucci America.
 

New York -- Barneys New York said that it has reached an agreement with its largest lender, Perry Capital, and other lenders to significantly reduce the retailer’s debt and improve its capital structure. Under the arrangement, Perry Capital has become the majority owner of Barneys. Under a debt-for-equity swap with Perry Capital, as well as other lenders, Ron Burkle's Yucaipa Cos and current owner Istithmar World, the chain's long-term debt will fall to $50 million from $590 million. The deal makes Perry Capital the majority owner of Barneys.

New York City -- Barneys New York is in discussions with its lenders about restructuring, Crain’s New York reported. Barneys, which operates nine namesake stores and 17 Co-op locations, is owned by Istithmar World, the investment arm of government owned Dubai World.

“Barneys New York is actively engaged in discussions with the company's small group of lenders to improve its balance sheet and further position Barneys New York for sustainable, long-term growth and success,” said a Barneys spokeswoman in a statement.

Westboro, Mass. -- Micros-Retail, a division of Micros Systems, said Wednesday that Barneys New York has launched the Micros-Retail miStore mobile point-of-sale solution in its flagship New York store, starting this holiday season.

New York City -- A series of retailer moves on Madison Avenue has allowed for expansion and improved adjacencies in one of Manhattan’s luxury shopping meccas.

According to Prudential Douglas Elliman’s Retail Group, Italian luxury sportswear retailer Paul & Shark has opened in the Hartz Mountain Building at 667 Madison Avenue, replacing Michael Kors. In turn, Michael Kors will move to the current Steuben store and open a new flagship when the glassmaker departs the space.

New York City -- Limelight Marketplace, an indoor mall in Manhattan, is getting a major -- and costly -- makeover. The shopping venue will re-launch in September as a three-story department store called Limelight. Renovation costs will total almost $4 million.

"We want to display Limelight as a 'fashion-forward' venue with sophisticated and modish aesthetics," said developer and owner Jack Menashe. "The restored architecture makes Limelight the distinctive spot that it is -- allowing for an exciting shopping experience.”

New York City -- Foot Locker said Thursday it has named Allen I. Questrom, along with Guillermo Marmol, to its board of directors, bringing the total number of directors to 11.

Questrom, the former chairman and CEO of J.C. Penney Co., Barneys New York and Federated Dept. Stores, now Macy’s, is currently a senior advisor to Lee Equity Partners.

Marmol is president of Marmol & Associates, and has a long background in information technology and systems.

New York City -- Barneys New York CEO Mark Lee said Monday that he has plans to launch a renovation program for existing stores as well as an overhaul to the retailer’s website.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Lee said at a Monday morning breakfast that changes will be substantial, as the retailer has the largest renovation budget for existing stores that Barneys has seen in at least seven years.
