Whole Foods Market has signed a lease for 40,000 sq. ft. at The Summit in Lexington, Ky.

Birmingham, Ala. — Whole Foods Market has signed a lease for 40,000 sq. ft. at The Summit in Lexington, Ky. Currently under development by Bayer Properties LLC, The Summit Lexington is a mixed-use project with 450,000 sq. ft. of retail and restaurants plus 306 multi-family residential units.

Phase I of the project will open during the spring of 2016 with 340,000 sq. ft. of retail and the full complement of the planned 306 residential units. Phase II will add 110,000 sq. ft. of retail.

Liverpool, Mexico’s largest department-store chain, received top honors in Chain Store Age’s 32nd annual Retail Store of the Year design competition.

New York -- Liverpool, Mexico’s largest department-store chain, received top honors in Chain Store Age’s 32nd annual Retail Store of the Year design competition. The company’s stylish and contemporary 301,400-sq.-ft. store in Veracruz was named Store of the Year, and also took top honors in the Department Store category. It was designed by FRCH Design Worldwide, Cincinnati.

Merchants Row, the first major block within the new Quincy Center master development plan, has begun construction.

Quincy, Mass. -- Merchants Row, the first major block within the new Quincy Center master development plan, has begun construction. Scheduled for completion in 2014, the mixed-use block will include two buildings with a total of 287 lofts, 24,000 sq.-ft. of office space and more than 35,000 sq. ft. of retail space.

Street-Works Development LLC is the master developer for the project, and Suffolk Construction Co. is the construction manager.

Liberty Center is a 64-acre, 1.1 million-sq.-ft. mixed-use development located in the North Cincinnati market. It will be comprised of 600,000 sq. ft. of retail, including at least one 200,000-sq.-ft. department store and 370,000 sq. ft. of specialty retail and restaurants. Liberty Center will also include 100,000 sq. ft. of Class A Office, a 135-key hotel and 220 luxury residential multi-family units. A 60,000-sq.-ft., 14-screen second-level upscale theater with integrated dining is also planned.

Simons, Canada’s eclectic and fashion-forward department store retailer, received top honors in Chain Store Age’s 31st annual Retail Store of the Year design competition.

New York -- Simons, Canada’s eclectic and fashion-forward department store retailer, received top honors in Chain Store Age’s 31st annual Retail Store of the Year design competition. The company’s 118,000-sq.-ft. store in West Edmonton Mall, Edmonton, Canada, was named Store of the Year. Designed by figure3, Toronto, Simons also was the winning entry in the department store category.

Houston -- Wulfe & Co., managing partner of Blvd Place, said that construction has started on Phase II of the mixed-use development located in The Uptown District of Houston.

Blvd Place will contain retail, office and residential components in an urban environment. This phase of the project is 60% pre-leased and will contain approximately 211,000 sq. ft. of upscale retail, restaurant and office space. The retail space will be anchored by a 48,500-sq.-ft. Whole Foods Market.
