Wal-Mart Stores announced that Bill Simon, president and CEO of Walmart U.S. since June 2010, is leaving the company.

Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores announced that Bill Simon, president and CEO of Walmart U.S. since June 2010, is leaving the company. He will be replaced by Greg Foran, 53, president and CEO of Walmart Asia, who will take up the post on Aug. 9, reporting directly Wal-Mart president and CEO, Doug McMillon. Simon will be available on a consulting basis for the next six months to ensure a seamless transition.

Part grocery store, part c-store and part quick-serve restaurant, it offers a mix of groceries, c-store staples, and refrigerated and fresh prepared foods, complete with a deli counter. Products are priced the same as they would be in a regular Walmart store.

Wal-Mart Stores posted disappointing results for its first quarter, with earnings down 5% as harsh winter weather kept shoppers away.

Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores posted disappointing results for its first quarter, with earnings down 5% as harsh winter weather kept shoppers away. The company also gave a weak earnings forecast for its current quarter that fell short of analysts' estimates.

For the period ended April 30, Wal-Mart earned $3.59 billion, compared with $3.78 billion a year ago, less than analysts expected. In addition to the unusually harsh winter weather, a higher-than-expected tax rate also hurt earnings, the retailer said.

Walmart is adding car insurance to its lineup of consumer services.

Bentonville, Ark. – Walmart is adding car insurance to its lineup of consumer services. The retailer said it is partnering with AutoInsurance.com, which helps customers comparison shop for auto insurance,  to provide customers with "a one stop shop" for their auto insurance needs.

The site allows consumers to look at prices at several insurance companies, including Progressive and Esurance (owned by Allstate), and contrast them with their current insurance.

Bentonville, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. cut some stock awards and reduced outgoing CEO Mike Duke’s compensation package 73% to $5.6 million in 2013, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Last year, Duke didn't get stock awards that are given in anticipation of future performance, and his performance-based bonus was reduced, resulting in a compensation package worth about $5.6 million including a base salary of $1.4 million and a performance-based bonus of $2.8 million for the fiscal year ended Jan. 31.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is launching a new store-to-store money transfer service that will put it in competition with Western Union and other companies.

Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is launching a new store-to-store money transfer service that will put it in competition with Western Union and other companies. Called Walmart-2-Walmart, the new service will be operated by Ria Financial Services, a subsidiary of  electronic payments company Euronet. It will start on April 24 and allow customers to transfer money to and from more than 4,000 Walmart stores nationwide for what the retailer says is up to 50% less than similar offerings on the market.

Bentonville, Ark. -- Walmart, a pioneer in the use of LED lighting systems in signage, freezer cases and parking lots, is expanding its use of LEDs to the sales floor. In a major move, the retailer plans to install energy-efficient LED ceiling lighting from GE in its new supercenters in the United States, along with stores in Asia, Latin America, and the United Kingdom. In all, 200 new Walmart stores will adopt the new GE LED ceiling lighting during the next two years, which translates into a total energy savings of 620 million kWh over the next 10 years.

Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. filed suit with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas suing Visa for $5 billion, alleging that the financial services company overcharges on the credit and debit card swipe fees it charges retailer.

The suit claims that Visa colluded with banks to fix swipe fees between January 2004 and November 2012, forcing it to raise prices and reduce customer service, resulting in lost retail sales.

San Diego — The Mansour Group has arranged the sale of a portfolio of 10 Walgreens properties located in secondary and tertiary markets throughout the Mid-south  in Arkansas Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Camden, N.J.

Mansour had the exclusive listing to market the properties on behalf of the seller, a private partnership. After generating more than three dozen offers, the portfolio sold to a private California 1031 exchange buyer who completed the sale of a multi-family property in San Francisco.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. on Thursday doubled its projected growth of its small-store format as the retailer reported a disappointing fourth quarter and issued lower-than-expected fiscal 2015 guidance.

Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. on Thursday doubled its projected growth of its small-store format as the retailer reported a disappointing fourth quarter and issued lower-than-expected fiscal 2015 guidance. Net income for the quarter, which ended Jan. 31, fell 21% to $4.4 billion. Total sales increased 1.4% to $128.8 billion, including a $1.8 billion negative impact related to foreign currency translation. Same-store sales in the United States fell 0.4%.
