City Creek Center, the first enclosed regional shopping center to open in the United States in six years, combines an urban vibe with an outdoor look and feel. Developed by Taubman Centers, the 700, 000-sq.-ft. center is the retail component of City Creek, a 23-acre, mixed-use development in downtown Salt Lake City.

City Creek Center’s architecture breaks the mold of regional malls. The innovative features include a fully retractable glass roof, a 140-ft. pedestrian skybridge over the center’s main shopping thorofare, a 1,200-ft.-long re-creation of a creek that once ran through the city, and two 18-ft. waterfalls.

The LEED-certified center integrates sustainable design with both historic structures and new buildings. It was built on the site of two former shopping malls, and more than 70% of the material from the structures formerly on the site were recycled or reused.

Anchors for City Creek include Macy’s and Nordstrom, whose façade features a two-story translucent glass wall of programmable LED lights.
