Verizon honors Paladino with Supplier Recognition Award in green category
SEATTLE — Paladino and Company (Paladino), a sustainability and green building consulting firm, has been selected as a winner of Verizon’s 2013 Supplier Recognition Award in the green and sustainability category. The award was given in recognition of Paladino’s overall green strategic focus and longtime partnership in Verizon’s retail store volume program, which resulted in 71 Verizon Wireless stores becoming LEED certified in 2012 and more than 130 total LEED certifications through the end of 2012.
“Paladino has been a strategic business partner in augmenting Verizon’s sustainability program at our retail locations across the United States,” said James Gowen, chief sustainability officer, Verizon. “This alliance has delivered benefits to the environment, and progress towards our 2020 goal of reducing our carbon intensity by 50 percent.”
In 2012, Verizon’s green retail store design achieved precertification in the USGBC LEED Volume Program. Under the program, any Verizon Wireless Communication Store constructed using the pre-certified design will earn a LEED Silver or higher rating. Each LEED-certified Verizon store is expected to deliver, on average, the following environmental benefits and associated cost savings:
- 12,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year energy savings from lighting, equivalent to the CO2 emissions from the consumption of 972 gallons of gasoline;
- 28,000 gallons of water per year, equivalent to 455,000 glasses of water; and
- 28 tons of construction waste diverted from landfills, equivalent to 14 cars.
